On the critter the first thing that came to mind with me is a muskrat too. didn't know if they were up there or not. Not a very good critter to have in you oasis. he can do some pretty serious damage to liners, pipes, plant roots. lilies, and if if they can catch fish, they will eat them. FAR worse animal in your situation than a dozen bullfrogs would be! :yikesu:
Well did not see a tail, have seen the critter twice, once right by the house, then the one time diving off the rock. Just not good enough. I don't see any plant damage from it eating them, according to the net they eat a lot at night. I will go out today and check out the bog well, see if it has been munching. Muskrats are throughout the usa

Well we snagged pictures of the critter, it is living under our deck, when it leaves a poop present it smells like unreal! We set up a motion detection camera and caught it coming out for its daily feed. It is crossing the stream right below our deck.

So far it has not done any damage to the gardens, it does love the falling apples. If I had the camera in the hot tub yesterday it was sitting under our tree with an apple between its paws, one cute picture

I think that apple tree is what may be saving your garden. Would have made a cute picture him eating the apple. Shame on you addy for not having your camera handy at ALL times

Going to try have some better cameras coming to catch the comings and goings. I have seen it out in the field, but it runs the moment it spots me and my killer yorkie!
