If you weren't in the UK I'd grab some from ya! Wish it would grow like that in my pond. I have to keep it separate from the fish or they devour it all up!

Sorry Mogsie. Zone 5 in the US means temps typically stay above zero F and go up to 90F summer. Not sure the exact temp ratings, and it also has to do with the type of landscape (i.e. mountains, valleys, sand, oceans, etc.) and where I live is farm ground so pretty flat in this State and Zone.
I'm really bad at converting C to F, so I looked it up. Your 25 summer temps are only 77 and so far you have not gotten below 32. We are very mild here this winter, too. It's been down to about 10F (-12C) this year, but even when we get below 10, it's usually not for very long. However, our winters typically have temps below freezing 32F (0C) for extended periods of time, so ponds would freeze and remain frozen for 1-2 months usually. It's going to have to get pretty cold now to get the ponds (regular farm ponds and our smaller koi/goldfish ponds) frozen and stay that way, but it sure might still do that. It's nearly the end of January, but we could get bad cold and snow yet February and March. Even have had snow in April, but not very often, and it would thaw usually within a day or two.
So, if you're that temperate where you live, and those plants do well, I wonder if they would do ok in my area. Your pond usually DOES freeze, right, just having a mild winter so not much yet this year?

The girl on the left looks like she's had a few and doesn't quite care enough as the one in the middle does for sure!

yeah koiguy that is danny mcgaskill, he lives not to far away from me,
contry, i live inbetween the cumbrian coast and the lake district so i have the sea 1 mile away on 1 side and the mountains 2 miles away on the other side, last winter we had -25 with -30 celsius chill, this year has been very mild and we only got snow on the mountain tops 2 days ago !
well the pond hasnt been in 12 months yet ! but if it had of been then yes it would have frooze solid, the local natural ponds freeze so hard during winter you can walk on them !
and the elodea crispa grows wild in alot of ponds over here so adapts to temperate climates well, yes get some in your pond,

Did anyone see the weather channels zone changes for the zone maps for the US it was interesting as the warmer zone is moving slowly up into the north in the US over the last 20 years or so .They are slowly adjusting the zone maps to represent the changes in it .I guess by what they say they don't want to change it to fast .They showed the map changes over the last couple of years .Maybe in the next 10 or 15 years Virginia will be the next Florida .I may have to try that plant I have never heard of elodea ,funny I can't find any places that sell it .Could it be that it is invasive .

Oh yes sissy it is on the invasive list. It is sold at pet stores under the name Anacharis also if you can get your hands on it there. They use it a lot in goldfish tanks as they love to eat it up and it likes cool waters. Grows wild here in places.
