roflaughing, just saw the frog video! frog payback for messing with him! That is great koiguy!

Sorry about your fish kougs, even though we have a heron hanging around, I have not netted the pond. My luck it would snow gang busters while we are gone. The fish are hanging low in the water (4-5 feet) and under the floating liner, so as long as it stays cold they are safe.

To keep nets up you can use electrcal conduit it comes in 30 ft. long lenghts and is only 7 dollars here or I used to use the large foam blocks in packing stuff ,it floats really nicely ..I now use window screen over mine with sewn in pockets for the metal conduit .The window screening is uv protected also .

It didn't occur to me that having the net on the water surface would allow a predator to walk on water. I'll have to use the condiut or as I've read on a different thread using a beach ball in the center. Like I said, lessoned learned.

So sorry this happened to your fish kougs and hope you get that net back up soon cuz now that they know they can get fish they will be back regularly. I had fish line and a rope strewn over my pond and that all got ice/snow on it and sunk!. I have my radio going out there tho and have seen no herons (that's the culprit that visited my pond now and then). I also have a wire fence around it too but had to reinforce it w/ more wire tied in between the fence gaps as those birds can squeeze through stuff like Houdini!

which one of your fish did he get hopefully not one of your bigger ones.

Oh it was one of my big ones. The remains was about a 6 inch square. But I've got a few others than the recent adoptions. I've got 5 brownies. I'm just hoping it wasn't my female that I just got.

Actually, I've got one of those workout balls (that I don't use) that I'm planning on using. Much thicking material.

The thicker one may work and what a shame .I bought a couple of those dollar store mouse traps that snap closed because I have a problem with a neighbors new puppies and I have tried to talk to the people but they don't speak english so I was forced to call animal control but until then this may work .I loosened the spring up and kept testing the spring so it does not hurt them to bad but maybe give them a hint my pond bites .

How far out in the pond was the net ripped? If too far out towards the center wonder how the raccoon would walk out w/o sinking down? You are right a bird would not rip the net so must have been something like a coon or weasel or?

The rip was roughly 2 feet out from the edge. Ok, silly question, we have weasels here in this area? Didn't know that. I'm going to add another layer on top of what's there. I like this stuff becuz it's thin and cannot be seen. I do have some batting cage netting if it comes down to that but it's ugly and very visable.

If you bought two bird nets and layered them together on top of each other and zipped tied them to each other in a bunch of places on the net do you think that might make it stronger .I know netting can be ugly but dead fish is ugly .I use screening from window screens on metal electrical conduit on mine starting this past spring ,Darn dogs next door pulled my bird netting off and drug it around the yard .So far I have seen them get snapped twice by the mouse traps in the last two days and they ran home yelping .Today so was one of those times .Sounds like they are being killed but noticed before they get half way across my property the mouse trap falls off ,but there still running LOL

Ok ok sissy, I'll pull out the ugly batting cage netting which is stronger and won't tear like the plastic light stuff.

Thank you for talking me into it. And basically looking out for my kids. That's why this forum is awesome.Great Support group. {:^)
