Wow, Dr. Case, how cool is that ... you have wild orchids! Be sure to post pics when the blooms open. I'd love to see them. And, your front yard is wonderful, too. Love all the contrasts of color and texture you have going on. My goal is to have more of that this year.

Colleen, this thread is just for people like you, where Spring just refuses to come and STAY!!! I'm in AZ right now, lots of blooming going on here. I'm hoping that by the time I get back to IL, that my Burgandy and regular Red Bud trees will be in full bloom (they were just barely starting before I left), and that my new pink flowering Dogwood will be flowering as well. I also have two different flowering crab trees that should follow suit shortly thereafter. We shall see!!!
Andy, I took in a bucket of Azolla for winter, just to see if the stuff outside would come back, and if not, I had back up. Stuff in the garage look much like what you posted, but not nearly as vibrant. It will go out to the end of the bog with not much water movement when I get home this coming weekend. Also tried to keep hyacinths with no luck ... unless they come back from roots, as I had them in a large pot with kitty litter, where lotus were but had died. I know the roots went deep into the litter. Doubt they made it, although did not freeze all winter. They were nice and green until about Jan/Feb., then turned brown slowly but surely. Pretty sure my hot summers are just not for them, since I don't have much shade on either pond. They did do well in the buckets, though. Not sure why ... figure that water was even hotter than the ponds. Still not sure about those plants.

DrCase that front yard is an easy maintenance yard and looks nice all the time w/o you having to break your back. Those are my favorite kinds of yards! Never heard of wild orchids and I too wish to see them in full bloom. Wonder how hardy they are and if they like sun or shade?

After a little wash and a brush up from torrential rain and stormy winds, Golden Club has perked up quite neat

Where did you find the hardy orchids, Dr. Case? And, you will post a pic when one of them blooms, right? :)
After being gone all last week, I arrived home to find my tulips just about ready to bloom! From Sun. a.m. to Sun. afternoon, they went from buds to this:

Also noticed lots of plants in the bogs growing really well, parsley is about 6" tall now, penny wart is still quite small, but more and more every day, and noticed teeny tiny water clover on the surface. I thought maybe it was all dead, but I guess not! This reed (horsetail I think) is a group of several groups that have emerged since I was gone.

Then noticed that the Bleeding Heart and Grape Hyacinths are in full bloom as well!

Oh, how I love springtime!!! Hostas are up or peeking through the mulch. Plants I just planted last year and also peeking through. What fun to be gone for 7 days and then see the difference in how much has come to life. Now, if we can just keep the weather a little more stabilized .... that would be great.

JW, absolutely lovely flowers! Can you remind me what the plant is in the last pic, bottom right (not the creeping jenny, the other one with 2 kind of swordlike leaves)? I think I got some of those from you and/or Addy, and they are coming up this year. Hoping they bloom this year, last year I don't remember if I saw any blooms, but thinking you said they do bloom for you.

OK, Andy, can you please look at my pic, and tell me if this is possibly my Golden Club growing? I definitely see a sprout there, but not sure if you even know what yours look like when they first sprout, as you have so many plants in the area covering the new sprouts. I'm still crossing my fingers that it comes back and grows for me. Maybe it's waiting for another warm spell.
