Thanks Colleen, next Spring I'll put them in baskets :) how deep should I put them for the winter? We are in zone 6 here. Not sure how tall this rush gets, she called it a soft rush? Might have to Google :)

If they are hardy rushes, they can just sit in a little bit of water. I have a needle spike rush that can freeze in next to no water. Most rushes can go even dry for the winter. I have a cork screw rush that is zone 5 or 6, that I cut back and winter in my greenhouse here cause that one is not winter hardy here. What type of rush did you say you have?

OK I looked back and seen you have a soft rush, those are just like the needle spike rush that I have, very tough to kill, can go wet or dry, not too much water for those (1 or 2 inches of water) , its not like the bull rush that can go quite deep.

so if it freezes in the ice, it will be ok? I can drop it down farther, if I need to. what about the bog bean and water clover?

Big beans are zoned 5 to 11. I don't have either the Bogbean or water clover, but my plant book says Bogbean slow to establish in the water garden, requiring even 2 to 3 years before lush growth is attained. it also says addition of acid to the soil, in the form of peat, enhances plant performance. Does not say how to winter, but if your in zone 6, you should be just fine leaving it in the pond to winter, seeing how it takes 2 to 3 years to establish, don't be moving it around.
The water clover is zoned 6 to 11, highly invasive, may need to be monitored as this plant can choke out other plants. Just leave some of the rhizomes in the pond, plant may need to be "thined out" weekly my book says. :)

Thanks Colleen, I'll watch out for the clover. My pond isn't that big. Are you getting cold temps? Our nights are getting chilly, but daytime is really nice. I'm already looking forward to Spring, and getting a couple more grasses :)

Just sent her an email, will let you know. I know she has a lot of grasses. She has one that is similar to the pretty burgundy colored grass that doesn't winter over, but it is perrenial. I need to plan out what needs to be moved, and what I want to plant. Got way too many daylillies!

Is it lemon grass .If you rub it and don't smell lemons it is the decrative kind and not the same .I have run into that kind several times and it comes from a plant that was grown from seed rather than cuttings .It seems the seed is not a real lemon grass .So you may need to ask her about it to make sure .
