Post your yard and pond visitors

It would probably be different if I wasn't in such a rural area where the wildlife had to struggle more just to survive. My house is in the middle of ten heavily wooded acres, and the neighboring houses (which are few) are also sitting on multiple acres. Mostly, there's just a whole lotta nothing around us, so I figure the critters who live near here can pretty much take care of themselves (as they've always done, long before we showed up & disrupted their world!)
Here's the little cutie that had to go for a ride yesterday -

My dogs have dog-door access to a small area right around the house, and she was hanging out inside the fence about 18" off the ground (so, right at nosy nose level!) I really love snakes, but I can't risk one of the dogs getting bitten.
I do like snakes but I admit to feeling a little crawly right about now:eek:

Opossums:

From one of the many things I get about critters.

America’s only native marsupial, opossums, have a bad reputation—but they don’t deserve it.
Did you know that one opossum can consume around 5,000 ticks in a single season? These unfussy omnivores do more than protect us by eating disease-carrying ticks; they also clean up our ecosystems by eating rotting plants and dead animals.
Opossums are nature’s pest control and cleanup crew, but many people don’t realize they’re essential, and may even try to harm them.

Some people falsely believe that opossums are aggressive and transmit dangerous diseases like rabies through bites. In reality, these nocturnal creatures are resistant to rabies and are more likely to play dead than attack when they encounter humans.
So if you see an opossum in your garden, yard, or neighborhood, don’t call an exterminator! This misunderstood marsupial keeps our ecosystems healthy and keeps humans safe from disease.

I had an elderly lady who lived next to me and she fed one right along with all her cats. In fact, I saw the Opossum and cats eat at the same time, out of the same bowl on her porch. Some people think they are ugly, but I find them quite beautiful in their own way.

They visit here almost every night eating up the dead bees around the hives. They keep our bee yard clean.

I caught one, live trap, trying to catch a huge ground hog. Boy do they have teeth it laid there and showed its teeth, refused to leave the trap so I propped the door open and left it alone. It played dead with all teeth exposed.

I really like them also, they are welcome to live here.

I know the Opossum's are around here but the only time I ever see them is when they get run over by a car :(
Maybe they are mostly night hunting creatures?

it was around 10pm and dark and i had my sliding glass door open and screen on when i heard critter noise outside the other night. i was a lil tipsy from enjoying some refreshments after some pond digging and went onto the deck to see them. they climber over the fence between me and my back neighbor, once scurried past towards the front and another one gave chase and so did i! can u see?

Skunks visit my pond on a regular basis, but enough already when coming in the cat door, eating the cat food even though I shinned the flashlight on him. He left without spraying, looking at me on his way back out.
