We had eggs on our dill and parsley and were able to raise cats and set them free when they hatched. Seems like most lay eggs late summer and don't hatch till spring.

I may try to raise one just so I can see the process. I don't know how many eggs were laid, but I found at least six. Black Swallowtail caterpillars are one of my favorite caterpillars, but I've only been lucky enough to see a few over the years. Looking forward to photographing them when the time comes. Hopefully they'll survive long enough.

I walked down by the pond yesterday, needed to yank some over growing plants. As I walked down I spooked a little one, jumped right up in front of me and took off. They are so darn cute.

We had a special visitor in our pond yesterday. We were throwing on shoes getting ready to go and save the little one. It hangs out in our yard by the ponds, mom's stay here orders for it. It was exploring and decided the lilies were on solid ground.............opps

Cute thing, glad it found solid ground eventually. Got it's first swimming lesson!

A Red-spotted Purple caterpillar appeared on my shed. Crawled over from the willow tree, I'm sure. There is an off-chance that this is a Viceroy, since I can't tell the caterpillars apart, but we have way more Red-spotted purples around here so I'm sure that's what it must be. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to find out in 10-14 days.
