I have just a few that I had that were in the front yard pond. Spring should be here today, temperature should get up to plus 14 Celsius, I think that is in the 50 F. There is still a chunk of ice on the one side of bottom pond where the sun is not reaching yet. The ground there is still frozen hard too and the last piece of net is still suck to the ground in ice also.
Even though it is still so warm, the ground is still so frozen and at night it gets frost on the truck even though temperature never got to actual freezing. The cold hard ground is like a deep freezer, but in some areas where the sun shine, the ground is starting to defrost.

Ha Ha Ha! Mitch the sun comes in at just the right angle and melts everything on that side of the house quicker than my front yard. Actually I was out raking the back yard yesterday and today! Here my little pond on the prairie seems to get more sun than you Mitch, I think you are deep in the wooded hills and it takes longer for sun to get over the hills there than here.... Plus I am further south than you, poor Mitch! Are the birds singing in the snow up there yet?

I get lots of sun because I'm on top of a hill. I think because you're in a valley you get hotter hots and colder colds than I do.
Plus i think I'm about 1 kilometer higher in elevation.
The trees break the wind for the most part.

I've been keeping the bird feeders full all winter so we have lots of black capped chicadees, white breasted nuthatch, woodpeckers, bluejays and whiskey jacks.
The chickadees are starting to make some noise lately.
How about birds around you?

The birds here were eating 40 lbs of food every 2-3 weeks this winter. Had a neighbor kid keeping them full for me, at 10 bucks a trip to fill them. Glad he did it was a rough winter. I bought two feeder that hold 20 lbs of food each, thought they would last a month.................npe.

Mitch the birds make so much noise here in the morning, they tend to drown out the sound of my voice, did you hear the noisy birdies on my post back there? I get all kinds of little birds and woodpeckers too, they come for my home made suet, made with real old fashion lard, lots of different seeds and dried fruits all mixed in. Plus they love to eat the rotton crabapples this time if the year too, they probally get drunk off the fermenting wine inside the crabapples. Lots of birds just never leave now, they live by the pond in the side of the house on that big vine all year. There is so many that they are actually getting to be a problem with pooping there and I must go and clean up after them every spring with the hose!
