So peaceful and pretty. I think my sister would love a small pond like this....did you use a preform for it?
yes, a very old 80 gallon pre formed pond, used to be part of my goldfish pond years ago. I find it works better for small fish as its only 80 gallons and it used to be iin full sun that would over heat for goldfish but perfect for tropical fish,

So relaxing to watch your little guppy pond. Do you ever have any predators bothering it?
not too often, Sometimes the odd garden snake but fish still plentiful . Small fish like guppies do not draw too much attention from sky. birds like the blue heron do not notice them.

Here is a beautiful night video of the big koi ponds. Koi are looking really pretty these days so I thought I would get a nice video before it gets too cold. Soon winter will be upon us and so I will have to start covering the ponds next month with leaf nets. Soon I need to get reading glasses too as it is getting difficult to read small print ...

Looks so refreshing for you koi! So you don't have to take your guppies inside every winter anymore since you discovered how to keep them warm out there. Good deal!

I heat them and cover with little plastic bubble. I sometimes talk a few inside just in case of power failure. So far no problem

Just beautiful Colleen! I love that clear clear water. It is 100 degrees here every day, my pond is hot. And my fish are not as lively as yours for sure. All I can do it keep it clean and well aerated.

Our nights are starting to cool off now so that is a relief. We had super hot August with 100 degrees for days. Now it is cooler this week thank goodness. It was too hot there for a while.

Water can evaporate fast when the difference between air and water temperatures is great, like right now the water temperature is about 68 Fahrenheit and it is supposed to go below freezing on monday, making that a greater than 30 difference. That is similar to the "kettle on the stove" effect. When I cover the ponds with cold frames come winter, then that cuts down the amount of evaporation.
Cant believe is going to freeze Monday! We shall see!

Good advice @callingcolleen1 and wow is it really supposed to freeze there on Monday? Been warm here and keeps on coming. Does not feel like Sept. It's in the 80's here now and will drop to the 70's for a couple days and then back up to the high 80's for all next week. Your pond looks so clear! Tell us how you keep the water so clear one of these days. I know you have the EZ filters but I think you have another kind also right?

I never have water quality problems and never needed a UV Sterilizer. I think it's because it runs year round, and I also have that really big yellow flag sedge, very good for photosynthesis filtration. I only have EZ Bio filters, 7 all together, 4 connected (2 per side then a "T" to pump) and three connected together to one pump. Also my ponds run from top to bottom, upper three ponds water level always the same roughly, and they have "spillways" that connects them all, and they all flow down creating a current that pushes most waste down stream to the "Jaws" of the yellow flag, that floats and has long roots that lick the pond clean. Fish also leave under that yellow flag all Winter, they can all disappear under that yellow flag in that pond. No fancy filtration or expense anything, so I think is a combination effect, between water running all year round from top pond down to bottom pond (the creek effect) that keeps upper ponds so clean and sparkling. That's it. I don't add anything other than to decloranate water.
Yep going to freeze according to forecast, and snow on the foothills. Right now it was super hot today and sitting outside by pond tonight and it's warm and we are all wearing shorts!
