Pondkid, really shiny scales are called Ginrin or Gin Rin. Look that up and you will see what it says about the shininess. That would be neat if he developed gin rin scales. I love them, and have several myself. I'm also seeing more white markings on his/her belly that I had not noticed before. The other thing I notice on this picture .... he looks like a she. LOL Quite the belly going on there. Good luck!

OK, I'm curious. Where did you "find" the second one? I remember the first one you found in your filter. Just how big IS your pond? Maybe you need to post some pics of your pond. :) Or, maybe lots of plants where the fish are hiding ...

The fish in the center of the last photo looks similar to the smaller ones you have in the bowl. It looks like an Orenji Matsuba. Maybe it's the same fish, or is it much larger? If larger, maybe it's the Mom or Dad. LOL
And, I'm VERY jealous ... how in the world do you have hyacinths AND water lettuce with koi? Maybe my problem last year was my pond was not cycled well enough to support the plants, but all my plants died. This year I plan to buy some and put them in the bog, or in a floating basket where the koi cannot eat the roots, which I assumed was part of the problem last year. Do your koi not kill those 2 plants? I have had no problems with the lilies ... hoping this year will be fine with them again. What other floating plants do you have on your pond? For some reason I just realized how close you are to me.

Lol the Koi eat the lettuce & the hyacinths, but they grow so fast I have to remove them or I can’t see the Koi, lol , I have a 250 gallon bio filter separate from the pond you see, so it cycles real fast, .to jump start the system pour the micro start up straight into the pumps.I’ll post pics of the filter if you want, its cheap to make.
