@the reptile guy Box turtles in the wild stay within a small area their entire life. They will find places to dig, or things to hide under (logs, etc.). In the wild, they have many more options than they have in captivity. Depending on the climate, they will dig deep or shallow for brumation. Same with their nighttime routines. They hunker down in a safe place to spend the night. In their temporary quarters, during the winter, I periodically water/moisten the soil in their brumation tubs — they need humidity, but not water to drink. If we have a few warm days in winter, they will come up. Sometimes I’ll take them inside for a soak, but other than that, I leave them alone. They need to brumate, so it’s not healthy to force them to overwinter in a forced environment.
