Still, you are in an area where there are others close, I think I may be the only one in this state! Grr. I only know of three others that have ponds, my sister, the lady I got the bog iris from, and one house I go by has a small water feature pond. No clue if they have fish or not, but it’s pretty.

Went out, moved ice around in the pond till it broke up along the edges. Water temp at the top is 40F, but temps will drop at night, so it might drop again and freeze up. Then as we were walking away, we noticed a new cat checking out my female. No clue where he came from, but he’s friendly. He just needs to move on though, we don’t need babies!

You people are the only ones who I know will appreciate this - I was just outside shoveling the snow off my patio and into the pond. Temperatures are rising, so the snow we got last week is all going to melt - it might as well melt in the pond! My husband said "only you my crazy wife... only you!"

I don't want any snow getting in my pond other than whatever falls in it naturally, because of where my pond is located. I risk to introduce harmful substances that might have spilled/leaked on the deck or driveway

snow and rain are never clean that is why my dad loved it .Free fertilizer but now with all the pollution in the air from us after a rain you don't really get that fresh clean smell after a rain storm .

Snow supposedly collects fertilizer when it falls. I wonder if that would make any difference in a pond's water analysis when shoveling it in there?

jw; I don't think it would matter much as the same snow being shoved in is the same snow that fell on the pond in the first place, and melts into it. And I think I read Meyer mentioning that rain (and the acidification thereof on its way down) does little to alter a pond, based on volume alone. Now, if the shoveling included things that were actually ON the patio and shoveled with it, that might affect. I'm thinking if you used any sort of ice melt, that residue might be transferred and cause a ripple (or more).

snow is like 90% air. vrs ice thats 90% water. so mileage varies

I can finally see my fish at the bottom of the pond, all made it other than the one that is caught in the skimmer box...it's a great relief to finally see them after so long
The water is so clear, I can even see the tiny baby that hid all Summer long, I'm so glad he made it!:p

We have liquid water on top of the ice layer. About 4 inches down is a layer of ice, no clue how thick but still pretty solid. The small ponds are still frozen, but melting. Dropping temps again tomorrow, will see if it refreezes.
