were here to help!! you will soon be enjoying your pond not just working on it! the biggest thing you can do is yank the rocks out!! at least the ones on the bottom.

Hi guys, just wanted to update you on the pond, looking loads better think this pond
is a bit over crowded. I have 4 fish that are well over 12 inches, i have counted
over 20 fish!. The pond is only knee deep as well. Will post some photos.

Hey guy the pond is going great that pillow stuff works a treat. I can now see the bottom, found about 12 clothes pegs and an mp3 player as well! Think a vac is the next way to go, the water is still a bit merky, any ideas on that guys? I am away in the lake district at the moment so will post photos when I get back at the weekend, and can you believe it I even have 2 babyfish that hide under the lilly pads! Didn't think they would breed in crappy water. But thanks koiguy that pillow tip saved a lot of work.

I see a lot of times in these forums that you guys state that rocks in the pond are not good. Can you explain why? I have small "river rock" just on the bottom of the pond. Nothing coming up the sides. Is it worth the effort to remove the stones? I don't mind doing the work if there is a benefit.
I thought I did a lot of research before building it, I guess not enough.

The problem with rocks in the bottom and even the sides of ponds is; there is not enough circulation to clean out the waste, leaves and un-eaten food. Rocks in a stream or cascading waterfall are ok because the area is swept up with the current.

Ponds that are maintained by nets and muk vacs need a smooth bottom to be effective.

A single rock or 2 that you can work around and more importantly does not impede the current flow is ok.

A lot of small rocks become septic because of trapped waste.

Does this help?
