I think it would be good for a 40 gal aquarium.

I thought I was being generous by saying it would be "good". "Adequate" is probably a better description. I get a kick out of how they throw a handful of bio-balls in those things and voilà you suddenly have a bio-filter that can take care of the bio-filter needs up to 3400 gallons????? lol

There is no way it could hold up in a 3,400 gallon pond lol. I have the smaller version, about 18" tall and 10" around and the bio balls are HUGE, like 2" in diameter. I keep the CF10 in my 500 gallon pond, I clean it twice a month, I could probably get a month out of the PF30 though
