I enjoy going out into the garden late in the evening when its dark and silent. I sit by the pond with my torch and watch the two newts stalking the tadpoles. The resident frog pops up each time to greet me too.

Anyway tonight whilst watching the newts I heard a noise and shone the torch nearby the pond and found the source, an hedgehog. Nothing unusual there as I've seen the hedgehog in the garden before. However a bit later in the evening I have one final check in on the pond and as I shine the torch to see if the hedgehog is still there, to my surprise I discover there are now two hedgehogs!

Wonderful stuff.

The Baltimore Orioles are back. I seen them this morning. 3 males and 2 females. They are already eating the grape jelly. Here are a couple of shots of them in the stream. I also had a yellow warbler visit the stream today. Sorry for the poor quality, the light is tough at that time of day with the IP Camera

The Oriole is on the branch and the Yellow warbler is on the rock at the bottom of the picture

Yesterday I went hiking at River Bend Nature Center. The theme of the day was wildflowers. All different types of Spring wildflowers in bloom. The first I saw were Yellow Trout Lilies. They also had white Trout Lilies.

Next were these pink flowers. I'm not sure what they're called.

Right past them was a large group of May Apples.

I didn't see much wildlife, but I did see a few toads and a couple Painted Turtles.

This Jack-In-the-Pulpit was pretty cool.

This red Trillium was a first for me.

I don't know what this one was called, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

and my favorite, and something I hope to add to my pond someday, Marsh Marigold. Actually, I left the trail thinking about where to buy many of these plants. Prairie plants tend to be more bright and showy, but woodland plants tend to have more unique shapes and textures.

and here are a few scenes from the trail:

Great pictures, very nice to have a trail like that close, wish we did.

Have you ever tried searching online? Or do what I do and scroll around google maps looking for dark shades of green (usually woodlands).

See your nice clear under bush, you can see the tree trunks, here they are covered by vines, poison ivy, dense bramble bushes. We have a few neat creeks and rivers here, can not walk down them without using a machete. And I am highly allergic to poison ivy. We can't even walk our woods without loppers.

When the trails around here start to get overgrown, the land owner (city, state, or private) usually has someone come in and clear it out.

So, I was just in the basement. There was this bird outside, pacing back and forth along the sill. He jumped up about 200 times, pecking hard at the window. Finally, I walked over close to the window. He flew away, then came back pecking hard on the glass, and trying to fly through it. He must have ate the wrong kind of wild mushrooms or something trying to get a bug or worm. lol

They see their reflection and think it's another bird. It can end badly if they keep attacking it. I've luckily only had it happen once with a Cardinal, and I scared it away before it could hurt itself.
