When we bring our firewood in during winter the yellow jackets come alive in the wood in the holder and fly around the house. I just catch them w/ the old glass and piece of cardboard and toss them out. Might be too cold out there for them but I'm not going as far as taking them out looking for a new warm home in the middle of winter to live in. I do have my limits :)

If they are in a place where I frequent they get their nests knocked down. I have to keep on it tho cuz they come right back and try to rebuild again and again.

Ours build under ground, in the rocks, those round paper nests I ignore. Those guys are solitary and don't really bother anybody and eat a ton of grubs.

Not those huge round ones, talking of the small ones you find in corners or on eves etc.

I've never seen any ground ones here but at our last place we had them and they are nasty. Stung the neighbor kid many times in one attack. Had to kill off that one. The little rounds ones like you said have to go if over my front porch and in green house cuz they will try and get ya cuz I have been got before and it's not fun.

I have had the ground ones come out as I was mowing, clouds of them, so glad my mower is fast. Last group sting was form them being in my veg garden, no clue they were there until they came out and stung the heck out of me, counted around 20 plus stings.

We've got all three kinds around here. Yellow Jackets (ground nest) are the worst. They seem to always be aggressive. Paper Wasps (small paper nests) bother me but not as much, they just build in places I wish they wouldn't. ...and Hornets (large round nests) I've not had a big problem with yet. Found a nest last fall that I eerily had my head next to all summer long while cutting grass. Seems ever year we get more and more. My poor grandma is overloaded with Paper Wasps. They build all over her shed, fence, birdhouses, bird feeders, gutters, shutters, etc.

My dad got to ride in an ambulance TWICE after being stung by yellowjackets. Both times he was in the yard pulling dandelions to feed to the rabbits, and happened to pull one with its root going through a nest. He lost conciousness the second time. Once the doctor counted stings, but gave up when he reached 125! Those buggers sting more than once, they walked up his leg, stinging every 1 1/2 to 2".
I was stung by a yellowjacket two years ago, on the back of the hand between two fingers. For three days my hand looked like an inflated rubber glove. NOT FUN!

Got stung between my big toe and the toe next to it many years ago while living in Michigan laying out in the sun. I never will forget the pain and agony and the swelling of my foot. Could not wear my shoe for a couple days so know what you mean John. One yellow jacket caused that much misery.............I can't imagine what your father went through.

I had one go up my shirt and sting my boobie, it hurt and was red and swollen for 3 months. I dislike the suckers.

We have an epi pen here for just in case now that we have bees and how I react to wasps.

OH NO now that is just unfair addy............how dare that bugger do that to your boobie!
That would really be uncomfy! My neighbor got stung on her bum and she is allergic and had to call 911 to take her to the hospital cuz she couldn't breath and she was not seeing right. Scary stuff that bee venom.

OK, now you're just playing Devil's Advocate! My first reaction (pun intended) was to bite my tongue, but then I started thinking, and I simply HAVE to ask: Did you have to stick Kleenex in one side to balance them????? :cautious:
