My 5 year old granddaughter was helping me dig and collecting little empty shells when she found this one. I had her set it on a moist rock and wait, it was worth it.

A late entry for Squirrel Appreciation Day. I looked up in my neighbor's tree hole a few minutes ago and saw two squirrels mating. One squirrel sat at the opening of the hole while the other went up the tree and gathered nesting material.

niJer Thistle. Small thin black seed. The thistle that falls on the ground, the juncos and doves clean up. The old seed must have been stale. The young ones seem to like the bag, Hey also have upside down feeders for goldfinches. They will swing upside down to eat.
some store have a cheap tube that’s filled ready to hang. Look in your bird feed isle.

I've got one of the tubes and I think I bought thistle and I never saw a bird at it. No goldfinches near me, just House and Perrin's and tufted titmice usually show up to nest about the time my pollen sub feeder is empty - they nest in it.

I'm not home enough to supervise that feeder. but I may refill with fresh seed and see if it empties itself. Thank you

Purple finches and house finches love it too. Also pine Siskins. I had one Siskin at my old place one day. Never saw another.

The house finches are eating my black oil sunflower seeds. but the glass and screen between me and the feeder when they are on it are not good for pictures.

I've seen them here and also these Crossbill's that are relatives of the Pinesiskin I believe. All Finches. They love hanging out on this tree by my pond eating the seeds or whatever is on them.
