I said it before , trimming any plant forces it to grow there it was not trimmed/cut. That being the roots and the last thing I would want is to promote spreading.

I do see your point. This is just a temporary fix. The excavator will be coming out soon to root it out.

Pond is crystal clear after installing the fountain. The tulips are now out in force while the daffodils slowly wilt.

I don’t know if this is good advice or not, but my parents put some grass carp in their 1/2 acre pond (this was over 30 years ago) to get rid of their cattails. It did the trick and the carp were fun to watch because they got huge.

That would be ideal for me, but it's prohibited/regulated in Illinois to put grass carp on natural ponds.
