My pond runs all winter, zone 2/3

Some of the water ways are freezing up, this is normal, not to worry, the ice will make a "ice cap" over the water fall way, but under the ice, the water will always flow.

Yes we freeze for five months of the year!!

OK, it's midnight, 100 km away in Brooks the temperature is -22c, here temperature is only -9c, temperature has warmed up 12 degrees over the last couple hours, Chinook blowing in warmer weather, so I am going to unplug heater tonight before I go to bed, supposed to be zero by morning! Cold snap looks like it's over for now.....

Got down to 19*F last night. No ice on pond and pump still running.

winter 2010 we got over 60 inches, winter 2011 maybe 2 inches, this winter who knows! lol

All this talk of snow makes Val and slightly envious of you guys we hardly ever get any in Plymouth UK if we do it melts away in record time . Would love snow like we used to get it

Well Dave, you will have to talk with Santa and see if he can "dream" up some snow for you or drop some off on his way!

This week the temperatures are expected to be several degrees above freezing during the day, and a few degrees below freezing at night. Currently the temperature is minus 3c, the sun won't raise till 7:35am and will set at 4:39pm. I have to rush to the puppy park these days to beat the sunset. The further north you are, the less sun you will have. If you are in Edmonton Alberta, the sun won't raise till 7:59am and will set at 4:37pm. Medicine Hat gets 27 more minutes of sun, another reason Medicine Hat is warmer than Edmonton, and helps give us an extended growing season here by sometimes as much as a month! So as you can see, the 600 km from Edmonton to Medicine Hat means more sun for me! . Although right now in Medicine Hat we are oddly colder than Edmonton, which is currently reporting in at plus 2, but will get to minus 12 there tonight, whereas we are forcased to get to minus 8.

I got my pond heater at pet mountain .com on end of season sale after the 2010 winter not taking any chances .I have the feeling winter is going to sneak up on me .

Every plant in pond has froze hard and now dormant. Somehow the pond still looks very Nice.....
