I see it falling down addy on your camera feed. Looks like when you get home you will still have leftover White Christmas maybe. Now you can get your stuff done inside the house that you've been putting off

You better hurry home cause that snow won't last long with your warm temperatures Addy! Come up here I will show you cold, your hair in your nose will freeze into snot balls tonight! Ha ha ha

Yep snow melts fast in maryland, it snows then gone within a few days, except winter of 2010, we had 60 inches it lasted most of the winter, one storm after another.
We will probably have green grass when we get back home, flowers still blooming! lol

Was just extra lovely here this winter wonderland morning, extreme cold caused strange ice crystals to grow on ice around pond. Had a nice birdy visitor to the pond today, Woody from the" Pecker" family, came by for a nice drink of water by the bottom pond, where a little hole is opened in the ice. Probally the only open water in the neighborhood for blocks around, they might find a open hole in the nearby creek if they are lucky! Water is important for many animals in the cold winter, so the birdies that live around the house are very happy to have open water this time of the year! :)

Happy Holidays to all my pond friends!

Thanks Sissy, they are actually ice crystals that formed from a combination of stream rising from open holes of water in pond and extreme cold, they only form right around the open holes in pond. No snow last night, just ice crystals fell lightly, the water droplets in the air freezes and forms ice crystals during extreme cold.

The wood pecker also hangs around house to eat the seeds off the big vine in the front yard that climbs up the house... another reason I don't cut plants back in fall as the wildlife eat lots of the seeds and dried rosehips all winter. It's nice to have natural food for the birds all winter. They also peck at the frozen crab apples all winter too. I do my cutting back in the spring as winter here can be harsh so it's nice to leave the plant fruit and seeds all winter. Although I do cut the seeds of some plants that can be very "weedy" and spread everywhere if left to long.

The sun was starting to set tonight down stream of the Power house, which warms the river water and keeps large open sections of the South Saskatchewn river open all year round. The geese got fat eating crops off the farmers field by day, and one year the geese decided that life was good cause the river never freezes solid anymore cause of the power house, and never flew away south for the winter. Now they have been here wintering by the river for 30 years or more!

You can see the steam rising off the river, as the open pools create lots of stream when the water many degrees warmer than the air. The surface water is probally about 32 degrees and the air temperature
-6 F. This is pretty much the way my ponds run, the heater creates warmer water and the extreme cold causes steam to rise off my pond as well.

Neat ice crystals Colleen and I like how you take care of your birdy friends! Lucky geese w/ heated pool to dip in all winter long. Better keep it a secret from the other birds or you'll have a mob scene
