Thanks it’s going to be a few days until I can out there.. Our niece is getting married tomorrow and I promised not to get any sicker!
Darn I liked them, but you know gotta keep the other half happy. Looks naked now
Thanks Addy. They were nice but they definitely dwarfed the bush behind it so it looked a little odd. Now that my bog is sprouting so many plants she feels there are plenty of plants in the pond. I‘m hoping removing it doesn’t hurt my water quality.

hmm, sounds suspiciously like you should have listened to her earlier, like when the roots were NOT as thick as baseball bats...hmm, yes, I think so!
Yes. There was one in the front I removed last year. I first bought these over 10 years ago But they were so small back then!
Wow, thick as baseball bats  Sorry you're under the weather and wifey's glasses were broken.
Thanks Tula. Well I got some free granite stepping stones from a job site I’m working on. They were originally used as street pavers over 100 years ago on a Chicago landmarked street. I’m thinking of building a waterfall in the same spot using the granite. We have a new tenant in the basement who has done a lot of landscaping. He offered to my wife to help with the waterfall! Also I’m going to upgrade the pump for the bog to get more water moving through it. I’m only using a 1800 GPF pump and the bog is 42 inches deep so there is no current visible.. Laguna makes one with double the output and I’m going to try that.

Oh a granite waterfall sounds gorgeous ! I think @RobAmy has worked with granite.

Our bog is tiny and we've got a 2500 aquascape pump, so I'm sure you can go bigger. ....however we do have a bit of a current.

Thanks Tula. This is a picture of them. So far I brought home 24 of them. The owners are going to get rid of them and don’t care. There are still a lot left on site. I only took the ones we needed to move where we are excavating. Here is a picture of the mess left behind after my exploits the other day. Tubes from pumps running everywhere. Once I cut the roots to this point I was able to haul the original basket it out of the water but the root mass was 3 or 4 times larger than this! I definitely picked the wrong week to start this project as all our children came in town this week to visit. I had no idea it would be such a big job to remove it! This is the building we are rehabbing that I used the granite from the yard. The building is made of red Indiana limestone. It’s pretty soft and needs a lot of restoration. The building was in pretty poor condition. A lot of money just went into structural repairs!

Those granite cobbles cut very easy with stone chisels if need be. That building looks like a good sized project.
Thanks Rob. I’ll need to look up pics of your waterfall. The project is coming in a little under $300/ SF with an owner’s duplex and 3 rentals. It’s kinda interesting because we can’t alter the exterior because it’s landmarked. There ends up being some interesting spaces on the interior where we had to leave the original openings for windows on the outside. The structural engineer they hired was extremely thorough and a lot of steel and lvls went into supporting all the loads. We just poured the cement on Thursday for the basement. With the dig down it will have 9.5 ft ceilings! The 2nd floor has the ceiling cut out above the family room. Overall the project is coming out nice and the owners are happy.

Love those old Moldies AS I CALL THEM THE CHARATER THE CHARM THE CHALLANGES . I did strickly historicals for 10 years i do miss those days. Were you able to alter the rear of the building often its only the street view that has to be restored to original.

I didn't realize that was Indiana red limestone. My oldest daughter went to IU and many buildings on campus were limestone. Her freshman year she broke her leg roller skating and had a tough time on crutches as they didn't use salt because of the limestone.

I can't get over the massive size of that sedge.....huge ! I think the waterfall will be lovely and will fill in that area nicely.

They are allowing the owner to put an addition over a new garage if he gets zoning to approve it so they are not as concerned about maintaining the rear.

Thanks Tula. I think I spent at least 5 or 6 hours cutting it down. I had no idea how hard it would be! I’m still sick so definitely the sedge won! I need to think of how I will design the waterfall. It’s not a huge area . I think it might end up looking more like a dam with water spilling over it. Oh that had to have been rough for your daughter! The red limestone stone is really soft. It’s interesting there are two other companion buildings to this one adjacent to it. Both have the same design as this with only minor differences. The main difference is the other two were built with normal limestone and we thought maybe all three were built with the same material and we thought maybe someone tried painting it but our mason told us otherwise.

I built the little waterfall today I was planning. I was able to start the base of it on my plant shelf so it did not come up too high. It was my wife’s idea to use some of the limestone pavers we had instead of only granite block cobblestones. I used those just for the supports.
Here are a few pics I took this evening. I also cleaned out my standpipe on my bog and cleaned the sludge out of the underwater pump cages.… and I vacuumed the bottom of the pond. It as a lot of fixing and cleaning but my water definitely looked clearer than it has lately and I was able to remove one water circulation pump and the air filter because there was so much water flow.
