This pipe?
Haha. Thank you! Yes that is the drain pipe from our garage. It was built 100 years ago as a working garage and had a drain.

That is fun that @IPA food the picture of the darn drain pipe !!

I read with interest on Nelsons about having a bog within the pond, just did't realize they used separate liners. It's amazing how much physics we learn when playing around with our ponds....like equalizing the water lever on both sides making the liner easier to move !

Our bog continues to spurt water from below every few days. We opened the clean out pipe today, but it ran clear. When I disturb the gravel in the bog, it's very dirty. We bought some more pea gravel and after rinsing it I'm going to raise the level a bit in the bog.

Yes. I started filling the bog with water and the water was higher there than the pond and my wall started to lean when I first started refilling the pond with water. It was so easy to adjust the heavy blocks when there was the same amount of water on both sides! How much are you going to raise it? I still have 720 lbs of river rock and 800 lbs of pea gravel to add when I put down my piping.

I read through the build when I joined and the pipe issue just stuck with me, that and how I thought you were using a drone to take the pictures, haha. I think I even asked you that and you included a picture with the patio furniture included with a glass of beer on the table. Odd the things we can remember consider how many things I actually forget.

Wow! Look how far you've come from when your yard was a construction site! You are going to love your bog! I know your wife wanted the bog wall to curve - aesthetically it does look better - but honestly, once the bog plants are growing I bet you won't even be able to see the wall.

Nice work in this summer heat!

Our bog is small, so we just bought a few more bags of pea gravel at Lowes. I actually love the "stream" like look in the bog, but as I pull out algae ( still :( ) I also remove gravel tangled in it....we just need to raise a few small areas.

Thanks. That’s so funny. We live in a building that is over 30 ft high and the back porch goes all the way up. It’s very easy to take arial pictures!

How are your fish doing through the whole construction thing?
Hi. Actually the fish and plants have made it through great. It was in the 90s over the weekend and some of the plant roots were exposed for a few days. I kept spraying them with water. I don’t know if that helped but they all look fine. It’s interesting working in the water for two days a lot of the fish would come up to me and nose around what I was doing. They didn’t seem scared or stressed out at all. I actually saw a lot of babies that I had no idea were in the pond.

Hi. Thanks so much. There is so much to know about a pond the fewer the fish you have the easier it is to learn without hurting your fish. I hate to side with mom but the biggest problem new ponders have is adding too many fish right away. So my original pond had 6 goldfish. I have over 40 now without buying anymore! I can actually point to a few of them and I can tell you who their fish great grand parents were!

Thanks Lisa. It was actually a lot of fun even though my wife wasn’t happy I spent the whole 4th weekend doing it. So as of Sunday night there were a few hundred pounds of rock on the bottom and I just had my pump running water into it from the top. Nothing really special but my water started to clear up. That was interesting because this setup was far from a real bog. Yesterday morning I had a couple guys help me get it going. I had bought gray schedule 80 pvc pipe and we built the system for the bog. The part laying on the bog floor was 5 ft long. We cut it every inch a slit about 1/3 of the way into the pipe. We put a few corners on it on each end. One ran up just below the water and I put a screw cap I could remove for cleaning it later on. The other side I ran up and connected it to a flexible tubing I already had from an old pump. The flexible tubing was 1.25 inches and the pvc was 1.5 inches so I used a rubber connector to attach the two together. I used some pvc tape to make a smooth surface on the flexible tubing to make a good fit. My final bog depth is 28 inches. I filled a total of 9-10 inches of river rock over the pvc to get the top to about 18-19 inches from the top of the water. Next we cleaned 10 bags of pea gravel with about 80 lbs per bag. The final height was still about 12 inches below the water. I had decided I wanted to get it close to 12 inches of pea gravel with about 6-7 inches of water above it so I still needed about 5 more bags of pea gravel. It worked out that every 80 lb bag was equal to 1 inch in height in my bog. At that point the water was pretty murky in the bog and pond but everything I read was that it would clear up. I sent a text to my pond pro and asked him what he thought about adding another 5 inches of pea gravel and he said I should. I’m going to pick that up tomorrow. Okay the result?? After 24 hours it is absolutely amazing!! I can see everything clearly in my pond including the fish and every little crease or pebble on the bottom of my pond. I still have to get more pea gravel. plant the 9 bog plants I ordered, let my water lettuces grow but when everything is complete it should be great. I also bought a new check valve I can install out of the pond horizontally and I think it will help my filter a lot but honestly I don’t even know if I really even need a filter at this point. These are a few pics I took.

Wow Keith, amazing difference in water clarity....kind of proves what @Lisak1 was saying about the gravel being the "work horse" of the bog !

I really like the location of the bog !!!
