Status report: 3 barrels almost done, I will be adding one or two more in the next weeks, time permitting.
First one (right) is the vortex.
You cant see it well, I coated the cone with rubber paint, but its still not waterproof. I also dont think it will help making particles slide down
. I ended up drilling some holes in the cone to let the area between the cone and the barrel flood. Oh well. Also dont mind the weird tubing, I just used some leftovers to control the water height.
This is the middle one, which will be filled with either brushes or maybe PVC rings. I also created a small cone in this one, same principle, except I filled the area below the cone with PU foam. Not a terrible success either, but it will do.
Lessons learned so far:
1. Dont use concave tons like I did !
2. off the shelve vortex filters really arent that expensive
3. there is no reason to have inlet and outlet tubes on different sides of the barrels. Not sure what I was thinking.
4. Making something properly waterproof is damn hard.
5. using sewer pipes with rubber fittings is a nightmare. Incredibly hard to fit, even harder to remove.
6. Off the shelve multi chamber filters perhaps arent that expensive either heh.
