started moving the fish indoors yesterday. got the basement pond filled with water from the outdoor pond. got salinity where i want it. got the big guys caught and in the basement pond. i also got the lillies cut down, and the hyacinths out. and heres something fishing4cars will appreciate...after i removed the media from the filter, an upflow (skippy) style. i noticed a little flash of color , down in the bottom or sump area of the filter. turns out, when earlier in the year i thought i saw a couple of babies (1/4" fry) in the filter. i must have been right. any ways heres a pic of the fish. 3 or 4 months living in the dark recesses of my filter. his colors are kind of muted but there. wonder what he'll look like next year? any ways i'm posting a pic of him. pics of this years fry i still have to come. as i pump out the rest of the water & catch them today.

LOL, yea, two years in a row for me. one of my favorite babies in the herd is the one from last year I found in the filter. It will be interesting to see how that one turns out. They always come out washed out looking but in a week or two it will fully color up. Was it about the same size as the rest of the babies? The one I found this year was quite a bit bigger than the rest, but now they are all pretty much the same size. Or should I say all the ones in the pond are. The ones I'm rasing in the tank inside are half the size of the ones that raised up in the pond.

It never ceases to amaze me that they can live in the filter. We retrieved eggs from the filters, and damn near all of them hatched... then a few weeks ago, I had a half inch koi get into one of the filters on the kiddie pool. This was just a larger Auquaclear that we stuck on the pool for more circulation.. didnt think anything could fit through the intake tube openings, but it did, went through the impeller, and was under the filter basket. I have no idea how long he was in there for. Came out very thin, but uninjuried LOL.

I haven't run an Aquaclear filter for a while, but isn't that the style that pumps water OUT of the filter box? That would mean the little one didn't have to go through the impeller. Just curious.

I could be wrong. I thought water intake went up the tube, through the propeller. Here's a front & back shot of the filter so you know which type it is.

well...wouldnt ya know it? things were going too smooth! my flotec pump seized up and that means a new pump. cant complain tho, that thing has been around for years and has served me and other family members well for many things... and i ran the basement pond pump "open", and sucked in a 3" sanke...chewed him up. i hate when i do stupid shit that causes stupid shit like that to happen....oh and i somehow managed to snap off the inlet on my Laguna pump. so i think i'm done for today before my luck gets worse!!! anyways heres a couple pics of the first batch of fry i caught.... about 30 in this batch.

One of those days when it would have been better to sit and drink a beer and watch them one more day in the pond huh? LOL I like the little Black and white one. The white is really nice on that one and makes the black really stand out. To bad most of the sumi seems to be on one side but that could change with time. Fat Orengi's you got there! Little Pigs!!!!! LOL

I stuck my food in the freezer, just been pulling out what I needed every other week or so.

I like that white one w/ the black spots also!
Doing the same thing w/ my fish food addy, keeping it frozen and taking it out as I need it. Too much food to go bad sitting out in the normal room temps.

You're right, Capewind. I have some old filters still kicking around, and the one I looked at pumps water back to the aquarium. Got several of your type too. Someday might use them again.

My husband is obcessed with anything that has any type of motor. He can always find a use... The pump on the main pond is from our old hot tub LOL. He'll even save a wiring harness out of a car, he says you can never have enough wire LOL.
