I enjoy watching my goldfish jump out of the water to catch mozzies. Even funnier when 2 jump after the same one:cool:
Are you sure they are jumping to catch mosquitoes?
I've heard of goldfish jumping from ponds before, but never to catch mosquitoes.

They are usually startled, stressed, or simply super active (because of warm water or environmental excitement) when they jump.

Absolutely. On a warm evening, watching the mozzies hovering over the water and not at any other time.

Maybe the idea that mosquitofish attack the adults isn't that far-fetched after all.

I fed the mosquitofish a few more mosquitoes, midges, ants, and beetles recently. It's amazing how fast they strike when insects hit the surface.

Doubtless, a fish-infested pond is a daunting place for a gravid mosquito to lay her eggs.

I'll watch the mosquitos bounce off the waters surface and when they do thiis they are seeding the water. but my current is way too strong for them all across the pond. so while they may try the current just gives the larva no where to grow so they all dies.

Just left the home of the couple who want me to build them a pond and even his flat grassy back yard with no trees has way more blood suckers than we do sitting up here or will come back but im not sure i want the help
