You know, the $108. sounded bad enough, but add $499. to it and it would be cheaper for me to drive to Cape Cod, harvest a hundred pounds or so of oyster shells, and bring it back! I'D even get a nice vacation out of it. So thank you for the info, Sissy and Addy, but I think I'll be haeding up Capewind's way!!

How come we can't just use eggshells in our ponds.........isn't it all just calcium and we buy eggs anyways?

Actually, j.w., that's what I have been using for my pigeons, since I can't get oyster shell anymore. Just let them dry for a day or two, then crush them up and mix them with the grit. Don't see why eggshells wouldn't work as well in a pond as any other form of calcium. I'll have to look it up and see exactly what eggshells are made of! BTW, any oyster beds up your way?

We have tons of oyster beds in the Hood Canal area here and some are for public collection. But guess what...........they want you to shuck them there and leave the shells so the new oysters can set up house again. We buy our crushed shells at the feed stores here. I'll beat anybody else's price by a nickel
