So I think years before they are big enough to pose a problem.

The question is how long before your pond poses a problem for your fish? 1000 gallons is a small pond for a big fish, not to mention multiple big fish, lots of small fish and even a few tiny fish.

I just re-read this thread - did you mean you have 200 goldfish? Or was that a typo? If so, I'm very curious how you caught a few guppies and mollies and, apparently at least one small hi-fin in a pond with 200 goldfish. I had a hard time catching guppies in a 40 gallon patio pond until I removed most of the water.

I also noted that you earlier commented that your pond would have no problem with a 2-3 foot long, 20 lb fish. I would disagree with that. At 1000 gallons you have a pond that's suitable for goldfish, not what is essentially a big catfish, unless that's the only fish you intend to keep in this pond. I mean, will it FIT? Sure. Will it thrive? Not so sure.

Theres literally people who keep actual sharks in 300 gallon fish tanks. I mean ocean reef sharks

As far as the iridesant sharks the average fish tank seems to be 160-200 gallons

In a perfect world I'd love a minimum 3000 gallon pond for them.

But in reality 1000 gallons is far more than the average 100-300 gallon fish tank most of these fish live in.

The set ups I've seen the iridesant sharks in at the local per store (100 gallon tank) or even the indoor 500 gallon ponds... (an 8x4 rectangle 18 inches deep)

I'd say mine are actually pretty lucky.

My pond is 14x10 and more like a concreted pool that is also painted tan and alagae free.

So took me about an hour to catch them all but got it done

Oh...also my buddy who's a professional pool/pond builder said my pond is 1600 gallons based on the measurments

But when I put my water in the time vs gallons came out to aprox 1000 gallons.

So I just say 1000 gallons

Heres the tropicals in my bedroom.

Sorry it's very hard for you to get yours. Mine are pretty easy in this pond but I've had other ponds where it would have been a nightmare

Also a pic with my friends by pond to show size

I just hope the parentals don't notice a difference in the electric bill, then I would have to pay for the part of the bill it raised, that would not make for a happy me.

I'd be curious to see his calculations. I just ran those measurements through three different online calculators and came up under 1000 every time. So I'd say you're closer.

The parental? I have 3 grand kids

I’ve not had fancy goldfish, I prefer standard body ones because I live out in the country and need fish that can evade wildlife. I lost my big white male when he was about a foot long plus tail, I’m presuming a heron swung by when dogs were napping, or a raccoon came by when Dogs were off chasing a skunk or coyotes. I know it’s a thing about them not being as fast to get food as standard body types.
