Thats good! I was surprised how much my bill dropped when I closed down one of my koi ponds. Of course, I had 4 pumps running plus lights.

I have 2 pumps and 2 uv lights and 3 heaters....

I wonder how much bill would decrease when turned off???

Lol...

For now I'm just happy under $200

If $300 in winter time even with no ac I will be sad

But I'm just testing for now.

I'll turn all heaters off in a week or 2 once I collect more data from 35 degree nights.

Just curious to see what the pond temp can be if low or mid 30s.

Typically the coldest night of year in my area is about 30 f

So if pond can be around 60f in 33f for example.

That's pretty impressive from 1550 watts of heater and more than enough to ensure my tropicals will survive if a freak cold nights of 48F hits from March till October when they will be in pond.

When I turn off the heaters I'll monitor daily usage of electricity to see if bill decreases

My ponds only 1000 gallons.

I have one 600 gallon pump and one 250 gallon pump

A have one 9 watt uv light and one 13 watt uv light

I have a 300 watt heater a 250 watt heater and a 1000 watt heater. I also have a 250 watt deicer not currently being used.

So it seems at maximum my pond set up is costing me 50-70 bucks a month to operate.

I think pre pond my bill would be 125-145 in Nivember vs the current 185.

Small enough I dont really notice

$200 I would surely notice and $750 I would cry

Once this experiment is over and I see what the 1550 watts can do on a 33f degree night...

I will turn off all the heaters and only use the 250 watt deicer.

Since it rarely ever get below 33f here in vegas...

This should be very minimal on my bill.

I cant see heating a pond all year with tropicals and just praying the electricity never has a black out.

Too risky for my beloved sharks and mollies whom I'm quite fond of

Also and this is important...

If you dont believe in heat err re and only have gold fish ect..

I'd get a heater anyways!!!

On a 50 degree day my water is 44 degrees or so..

Feels like ice when I go in water to change filters or clean as I love to do. I sweep with a pool broom every other day and vacuum with a low powered pool vacuum once a week.

I go completely inside every 3 weeks to clean the filters.

Being able to turn on heater the night before a filter cleaning is priceless.

No heater equals going in 40f water on a 50 f day

A heater equals going in 63 f water on a 50 f day

So for me extremely worth it.

Assuming your ponds not too massive. One day of heating shouldn't cost too much

You could probably accomplish the same temps building a plastic tee pee over your pond and little to no heat

For me my pond is more of art than a traditional pond.

More like a huge fountain then what many here would consider a true pond.

Just cement and rocks (although I have planted water lilly's and other aquatic species as of late.

So being that it's more of an artistic fountain for me and literally right by my house and window..

I'm talking within 6 inches of house..

I'd personally prefer heating elements than the teepee look.

Even though quite effective as you say

So take it a step further for the winter months and make it out of a sliding glass door or two and simply lean them up against the house.
Or even just coving the pond on the real cold nights .

That's actually an interesting thought..sliding glass doors is a brilliant idea.

Effective but keeps the modern look I desire

This one I made last June I would totally build a plastic teepee over

Its 50 feet from the house more in the yard surrounded by grass.

But the owner only wants gold fish so no need
