Yes you can, but that requires a bulkhead fitting and another potential leak point.
Did you go to my web site and look at the way I did mine?

why in the world would you have to run the hose up in the air? and if you run your feed ilto the bottom you will need to install a check valve to stop any risk of backwashing the crud out of the filter if your pump fails or turns off for any reason if you really want to keep the hose on the ground hard pipe down the outside of the drum and make your hose connection there.

yes ..you can do that.. what size pump are you using? if it was me i'd leave the filter right where it is in the picture, and hide the filter it looks like its the perfect heigth to run the output straight out thru the stacked rocks there.( they look dry stacked with no mortar) just rearrange the stone alittle and hide the fiter with a latis gate

thanks koiguy, i wanna leave the fiter there but my mom dont wanna see it.
but when i move that box out of the way there is small bushes behide the pond
i think i can leave the filter in the same spot but just move it back to hide it a little.
and yes the water fall is dry stacked no motar so i can run the return from the filter
right to the rocks and i dont have a pump yet so u said to use a 1000gph pump.
and u think i would need to rise the filter on a cider block or will it be ok
at this height. and i was looking at the ball valve i got .and its really hard to turn
it feels like the handle will break off should i put a little cooking spray in it
or get a new one . i also got the pipe for the ball valve so do i cut the pipe
small glue to the shower drain and the other end to the ball valve?
and could i use like a washer mahcine drain hose for the hose
to run the water fall?? thanks guys

i was reading a pond book and it said for my size pond
that i would need a pump that pumps from 600 ghp to 1200 pgh.
and it said that for bio filters it has to pump slow
if i do get the 1500 pump will i hurt the bio filter

And you can always divert some water around your filter if you need to
2 valves and a tee will let you do what ever you want
