It's not so much how many fish can one cram into 180 gallons . I could keep 150 small feeder gold fish in a 180 gallons but I'd have a filter 4 times the size needed for 180 gallons . It's the person themethods you chose is how successful you'll be only after yo succeed and fail.

The small store goldfish will grow, what is 1-2" now can grow to 8-10". And let's not forget how quickly they breed! Start out with a few and get to know your pond before overcrowding it.

or get fantails, they stay smaller and are neat fish. I have them in my 300 gallon hot tub pond. I did not want goldfish in that pond they breed too much and get too big.

Most of us have a problem with our fish multiplying causing an overcrowded condition which will result in poor water quality.

So, please listen when everyone suggests keeping the numbers down from the start.
180 gallons is very small, I would only add a few.

Just 2 or 3 to start and see how it goes. I like the Shubunkin goldfish or the Fat Fantail's w/the wiggly butts!
