Priscilla,. I had really bad pea green water in my little front yard pond, and it just would NOT go away. So I went a got a bottle of concentrated Liquid Pond peat and gave it a really good doze. It is all natural and after a week the water slowly cleared, and then all of a sudden the water went Crystal Clear. I have used this stuff in the past for everything almost, good to if the fish get injured cause it will help fight fungus as it is a natural fungicide as well, I think the bottle is under 20 dollars, cheaper on line and I would highly recommend this.

I have never used a UV light and swear by natural products like concentrated Liquid Pond Peat! :woot:

Peroxide works against string algae, I have used 1 liter per 1000 gallons. I have not tried it with green water (one thing I don't battle, I don't have iguana poo)

I have never used a uv light, so can't help with them.

I have heard of liquid peat, never tried it. Our water is so acidic I have to be careful with anything put in that might drop the ph level.

I'll agree with Addy on the liquid peat, as it will alter the pH (although the change may be negligible given the total amount added to total volume).

Priscilla doesn't have filamentous algae, but suspended algae.

Aside from what she's already done, her next logical step (given the fact that she can't just go out to the local pond store), is to use the UV she's installed and strain the bypassed water through batting.

Weekly dosing with bacteria, coupled with barley extract will keep her algae bloom at bay.

Agree, I have never had to fight suspended algae, so no personal knowledge on good fixes for it, just string in my arizona pond. That is all I have ever used peroxide for. Most of the time my pond gets nothing added to it.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info.

Currently combining the new UV light set up with lots of water changes, that should help speed up clarity right? If clear water is going in and all water is going through the UV light. It should help. Hopefully that UV will be enough to keep the pond clear till my new bulb gets here.

Yes, you are right, I don't have filamentous algae, I just googled it. I'll just keep changing the water and sending it through the UV. Hopefully it work out.

Slow down with the water changes, Priscilla.

You're introducing nutrients into the pond, which is essentially feeding the algae. The tap/well water contains elements that the algae need to thrive.

Just the UV light and the batting filtration should clear it up in a bit.

Patience, Grasshopper.

I won't mention the fact that a grasshopper is a gross drink. Oops, I mentioned it.

Ohhhh! Okay, thanks for the heads up! CRAP! Was hoping to speed things up.

ARGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what makes me so mad?!?!? On my last order, I ordered TWO pumps, just incase one breaks - why wouldn't I order a spare bulb or two? UGH! Oh well, won't happen again.

Its gonna take like a week or more to clear up I think, at 500 gall per hour.

If you had filamentous algae, it would be easier to get rid of, or at least to keep under control.

Constant water changes are bad juju. Be like Nancy Reagan and just say "no".

Oh no. Okay. Well I will just be patient. :( Which I am not, which is why I paid triple for something half of what I needed. :(

Do you have a 'guesstimate' on how long before I see any improvement? 500 gall per hour, 16 watt (for 1800 pond), my pond is 2200 .....? 3 days? A week?

I'd say a week, given that you're not going to bacteria dose.

If you filter the algae-laden water through batting, it might be less.

Buy your sister-in-law green colored glasses.

I found the more water movement and the aerator work great on green water

I recently unplugged my aerator. I currently have a 2100gph pump going to a waterfall and a 1000 gph (split into 2) spitting into the pond. So that basically 3 waterfalls (although 2 are small.

Is there a difference in waterfalls vs aerator?
