Fingers crossed for you. And to slightly paraphrase j.w., looks like you may have to trudge off to work tomorrow and spread the flu to all the people around you for round 2.

You know, we always think about taking time off work to allow the sick person to rest but never think about giving time off work to prevent transmission into the work place.

Anyways, hope you feel better tomorrow

The best protection if you go out in public, is to not touch your face until you wash your hands well. If I hear someone coughing, I immediately hold my breath and move rapidly away. Been flu less for a long time, neither of us get it.

From working in a hospital, you become hand trained, get in the habit of never touching your face, until you clean your hands very well, everything is covered with germs there. Constant hand washing, wipes etc.

from the cdc

Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

Most people who get influenza will recover in a few days to less than two weeks, but some people will develop complications (such as pneumonia) as a result of the flu, some of which can be life-threatening and result in death..

How long should I stay home if I’m sick?
CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or other necessities. Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine, such as Tylenol®. You should stay home from work, school, travel, shopping, social events, and public gatherings.

What should I do while I’m sick?
Stay away from others as much as possible to keep from infecting them. If you must leave home, for example to get medical care, wear a facemask if you have one, or cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Wash your hands often to keep from spreading flu to others.

we also have the extra deadly H5N1 first reported case in Alberta, first case in all of North America! It kills over 60 percent of peole it infects, now may not b the best time to go in to work, just in case...

Patient Zero traveled back from China on December 27, 2012, to Edmonton Alberta, then went to hospital on the 1 of January 2014, died two days later...

Get better Colleen, stay home and be healthy, then go back to work. Way better for your body and others around you.
That is scary, we are not in our normal isolation mode, lots of people down here, so being extra cautious. That is a rare flu, the normal flu is around everywhere right now.

I got this from peoole I know at work, who were very sick, and my friend from work was sick for days and her dad has it bad and it developed into ammonia!

Put him in your pond filter, the bacteria will take care of the ammonia!
BTW, the H5N1 flu isn't passed between humans, you have to get it from an infected bird! DON'T go to China and kiss a chicken!!!

Yes, I know that the H5N1 flu is not yet spread between humans, although I have heard it may have happened in China, and I have been closely following this story since last year. Viruses are always changing and it's only a matter of time before its make the jump from human to human some say.

Pretty Sure I have the H1N1 flu bug, front page news today says it is the main flu in Alberta right now, killing 9 people so far in this province, and let me tell you this bug is giving me a hard time!! I have slept most of the day, need to take the puppies to the park, but I feel weak....

the H5N1 flu really scares me big time, cause it kills so quick and so very many. If it does spread human to human, I am going to lock myself away in the house and not go to work or open the door!! Never went to work today....

OMG!! remember when I told you that Hubby had a doctor appointment a few days ago, and he was at the old Children's hospital in Calgary, where they now treat cancer people, and he ran into what looked to be like isolation ward, with all the duct tape and plastic. That hospital is very quiet with not many people, perfect setup for highly infectious isolation ward...

Well I just heard on the news that the womon who died of H5N1 desdly bird flu, she was not from Edmonton, her flight just landed there, she died in Calgary!!!! She was only 20 years old and she was a health care worker!!!!!

Talk about small world!

Colleen,
My wife and I had lab confirmed H1N1 2 years ago, and it is like the regular flu on steroids. We got though it ok. You're a couple of years younger than me, young and active. Take care of yourself, rest, stay away from work if you can. Use alcohol based hand sanitizers whenever available. I've even bought one to use around the house here. It's called Microsan.
Did you not get immunized? There's a lot of incorrect information that goes around with immunizations.
H5N1 has no recorded incident of human to human transmission, and there have been hundreds of cases.
This H5N1 patient actually died in Edmonton.
Isolation wards are not unusual in hospitals.
