I welcome toads and frogs. I did relocate one large bull frog as he was killing a lot of birds.

Sometimes we see a frog sitting on another frog's back. I guess they are mating.
We get millions of eggs, then millions of tadpoles.
I imagine the fish love that time of year!

Today must be frogNtoad today for me in GPF. Florida has 2 invasive frog/toad species, but I've heard of only one possible problem in ponds: Cane Toad tadpoles might be toxic if eaten by the fish. That being said, no one has said this has happened, just a "worry". Cane toads are seriously, sometimes lethally, toxic to dogs and cats. I had a fairly large Cane toad last summer and he wasn't bothering the goldfish. The black racer snake didn't like him for dinner, though.
All our native frogs and toads seem to live a utopian dream with the pond fish. (Gators? not sure yet.)

All you Northerners are making me miss the Adirondacks...I had a seven acre pond right in front of my cabin and the sound of the peepers at night was deafening...I am hoping that I will hear some here this spring (over the sound of the ambulances, fire engines and speedsters:(

I joined a Pond Building FB group and I keep seeing reference to people trying to keep frogs out of their ponds. Apparently, during mating season, the male frogs grab onto whatever they can killing or causing damage to the fish.

I have never heard of such a thing and have been looking forward to the 100s of frogs that die in my pool each year finding my pond first. I have a hunch the people posting are in the UK, however, I cant imagine they have species of frogs much different than here.

Is this really an issue? I thought people were joking at first but then someone complained of losing a fish!
In 40 years of Pond Keeping in the UK I have only ever had one issue with a Frog Latching on to a Goldfish.
I was able to net the unfortunate fish and remove the Frog. The Goldfish did however carry the mark of embrace for the rest of its life (It lived a further 8 years)..

Do you know what type of frog it was? I am thinking its a diff species than we have in the US. I have never heard of this until recently.

We almost excusively camp in the ADKs in the summer! I have a small swamp across the road at my house and the peepers are almost deafening in the spring. I am always amazed how early in the Spring it starts. I am hoping some of them end up in my pond.

FACEBOOK and twitter are EXACTLY WHY THE WORLD HAS GONE TO SHT.

You have a bunch of at home twits sitting behind the computer yelling from the roof tops to there flower power ideas. How the eutopia should be according to them. SHUT DOWN THE PIPE LINES IN THE USA where we have some of the most stringent environmental rules in the WORLD and say it's better to get the oil from russia or good knows where and no rules... i HEAD BACK IN THE 80'S THE NEXT WAR WOULD PROBABLY BE OVER WATER. I said huh even desert nations have desalinators. an easy process. 75% of all the fresh water in china is contaminated. Guess why huge business no rules. iF A WORKER FALLS TO THEIR DEATH oh well next ..

People should be made to take a quizz before they are allowed to speak.

And to most of the slimy frogiies FISHIES AND THE MUCH IN A NATURAL POND WOULD BE ERADICATED. How many times has someone said you go swimming with fish /????? talk about nieve.
Toads do get loud there numbers can multiply very quickly. I'm of the same boat as @addy1 WHAT EVER COMES IN IS WELCOME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HERON. FROGS SNAKES TURTLES DRAGONFLIES moths all the different frogs and even the hawks that feed on the frogs you name it are welcome.
you are 1 million percent correct . I won't have a commiebook account . I used to go on it just to go to the marketpace and they need to get on board and change . I saw 2 frogs by my pond yesterday . I guess it was warm enough to take a peek outside . I just hate the thought of another year of taking out gutted frogs again . It is so gross , not sure why they don't eat the whole frog and how they manage to suck out the insides of them

Bullfrogs are not welcome in my pond. They will eat my fancy goldfish. Other frogs are welcome.

In general, frogs are supposed to be a sign of a healthy pond. They dont really curb the mosquito population.
