I've heard of people feeding their koi dog food before. I don't have koi but bet if it was in small pieces even the goldies would eat it! I don't have a dog but have cats............wonder if they'd like dry cat food?

Who knows? Anything's possible, give it a try and see what the fish think! I can tell you that my koi and goldfish prefer the dog food to fish food cause they really get excited over the dog food and ignore the fish food. I still have some small pellets for the small fish, but when I put the dog food in they will chew that big kibble until it 's all gone, chasing it around like a big ball. I feed my dogs puppy food cause its higher in saturated fat, and have since they were puppies, and the dogs are almost 8 years old and look great and so do the fish. I do the high saturated fat diet too cause it tastes better and its the food of my forefathers, but that's another story.

In my airzona pond, I tried cat food once, it left an oil slick, so went back to fish food.

I bought a 2.2 lbs bag of Azoo Koi Growth plus Koi food. Paid 6 bucks for it. It is suppose to reduce poo and have better break down in the water? Helps color and growth. Now I really do not know just yet how well it does on that end but the fish love it.

Please be aware that the dog food that I feed may put a extra waste load on some ponds. If you are having water quality issues this dog food may not be for you. I have many types of filtration and circulate a good amount of water. I also have a very established natural pond digestive system (lots of sedges (yellow flag iris, wool grass bull rush, sweet flags, and other rushes that a very large)
The sedges and marshes have leeches and other aquatic life that also break down waste very very quickly before it becomes a problem. I live in cold Canada and my pond had ice just a month or so ago, and the flags have already grown several feet tall.
The dog food is also not a "cold water food" so if the fish are swimming slow and the water is still quite cold, don't feed them the high protein dog food.

I buy all of my fish food and pond supplies from Drs. Foster and Smith. Best selection of pond products I have found with free shipping on orders over $49.00. They have just slashed alot of prices on many products, worth it to check them out.
