Welcome to anything but wonderful ct, bleeding hearts have made the north east impossible to live for anyone who works for a living. We give the homeless cellphones and if your last name is on a list you get fuel assistance, food, housing, regardless of how much money you make.

I hear ya, living in Maryland, they love inventing things to tax us on, we got our “rain tax” back in 2012, which was an impervious surface/ stormwater runoff tax that was eventually repealed. They do this under the guise of improving the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay, but in reality it is a money grab for the misspending and misappropriation of funds in this state.

In the $400 range for my electric bill is a good month, mine can be up over $600 or so in really hot/cold months. To be honest, my ponds and aquariums have really minimally impacted my electric bill.

Wow @GBBUDD i could not do that my electric bill for the whole house (pre-pond) averages just over 100.00 per month. I am okay with the pond taking me up to 200.00 overall. You may want to look into (saying this knowing that you have as you are always a few steps ahead) automation. Once the pump is in its final setup and has a float kill switch i will run it on a schedule via an AVI-On out door remote. I can schedule the times it will run and have remote override on/off ability from my phone via bluetooth. My lights are all tied to a transformer that I can use to turn on or off after so many hours past dusk. If i lived in CT with a bill like that i would be exploring solar options if possible.

The AVI-ON adapter the Monsoon is plugged into.

Wow that is high!

We had solar installed via the electric company, free, mandate to go green on xx houses. Right now our electric bill is 5.96 a month, we pay for some sort of fee. We pay for any power generated via the panels, build up a credit and get a pay back every year from the electric company, they buy our excess.

Our solar bill is the highest in the summer, around 180 or so, but we are not using all that is generated. The last payback check was around 175 or so.

We have converted to all LED lights, a instant on water heater, installed a propane tank that heats our house via a small propane vent-less heater.

Don't even notice turning on the pond, or turning it off.

What kind of creature is that? A lizard that likes water of some sort. Looks kinda like he has a small crock or alligator head!
Turns out it is a blue tailed skink lizard and they are common in North America, the prefer damp wooded areas.

Yeah, the house is pretty big and has an open floor plan, so it takes some juice to keep it cool or warm. I should look into solar options at some point.

Looks more like a juvenile racerunner/ whiptail. Either way, neat find.

that is with cooling but unfortunately I have to add oil bill for the heating and hot water. when I get the project completed I will be looking at a back up pump, I may opt to a programmable pump where at night I could run at say 6000 gph for the evening. we will see if everything continues on the path that it is now I may just except the cost and welcome the wonders of the pond. it's been a couple weeks now since the duck flew the coop. and now we have some frogs making there home in the pond. And as always crystal clear waters how can I fight gph and $ when it's a work of art.
