CW's Back Yard Water Garden Begins!

Jesus I missed a lot! I will say that a corner of the liner I ordered from AT was just completely peeling and not waterproof. They did send me way more than I ordered so I just let it slide. My solution when I ripped a little hole with a rock was some good ol GE silicone 1, seems to be holding up decent ish. Sounds like things are on the uptick though, keep pushing!

my bog has about 1-3 inches water above the gravel line, but I wanted that to create a vernal pool affect for tree frogs in my area to breed.

That's funny because we probably have 20+ frogs in the pond already and, as far as I can tell, not a single one of them in the bog!

I also noticed the other day that there's about 25 tadpoles per square foot on the rocks in the pond. Like, every single surface absolutely covered with tadpoles.

I get tads in the ponds and the bog. I always worry about the green frog tads in the bog, they will get stuck there when I turn off for winter. I do a tad search and toss in the pond when I do winter shut down.

The tree frogs lay in the bog, you can tell since the tads are so small. The toads never use the bog.

I do know tree frogs in particular aren’t going to want to breed where they know fish are which is why they’d prefer the bog. Does your pond have fish yet? I have tree frogs that have moved in to my pond already, but I haven’t seen any signs of eggs yet.

No fish yet. That might be why.

Well, the rain is back. La Niña is really unleashing on us this year.

Barney and I are playing in the mud again as work on the patio continues. What a wet mess.

I bought a 15 lb rotary hammer at Harbor Freight for $150 to shape my urbanite slabs and it is AWESOME. If it only lasts through this one project, it will totally be worth it.

Like all new things, I’m getting better as I go. Liking what I’m doing now and not loving what I finished a few days ago. But now that I have the roto hammer, I can go back and make small changes that I think will make a big difference.

I'm going to plant it! Probably with creeping thyme or similar. That's why I have wide joints. Some of them are too wide, though, and I'm getting pretty good at shaping the slabs, so I'm going to head outside now to tinker with it.

Too cold for it here. It's common name is Baby Tears and grows in zones 9 to 11. We are zone 8b up here in Arlington.

This is Spain, not everything is sun and bulls, my area is the equivalent of yours 9 we have high mountains and snow in winter and it holds up perfectly
