Love your long winded explanations, @Pablo
@Pablo gets paid by the MINUTE the longer it takes to explain the situation the longer it takes you to absorb all the words and what is pertinent and what is time killing. The sooner your retainer runs dry and needs replenishing !

Sure didn’t! If we end up with too many, I’ll let the kid practice her fishing skills.

Sorry you’re experiencing those fires. No fun. That’s like every other year out here. I remember a few years ago landscaping with my respirator on because the smoke was so bad. Felt like I was terraforming Mars.

Our permit experience has been the village wants you to get one and pay for it but they could care less about how the work gets done. We had an issue with a roofer that ended up in court - the work was not up to code (among 1 million other issues) but the inspector said “we’d let all that go”. We had a problem from day one when they issued the permit in the name of a business we had never heard of and did not appear on the contract. The contractor lied and said he didn't use subs, but guess what. The village got their $$$$ and then never cared one bit who did the work or if they inspected along the way. Told us how the work got done was our problem. Oooooooookay. Thanks for your help.

Around the same time as the roof debacle we had a patio installed. When the inspector came he noticed we were trenching out the drain tile around the house to resolve a basement water issue that existed from day one. He said "you need a permit for that work, too". I said "oh really? Because we're just fixing the work the builder effed up that you signed off on 15 years ago." That ended that conversation.

I’m a believer in doing things the right way and one would think getting an inspection should guarantee that and provide some protection for the homeowner as well - unfortunately, at least in our village, permits are just one more useless tax.
