CE Everything is looking good. I would like to see some pictures of the fish you are talking about, especially the fantail. Also why do some of your fish have names and other's don't? I saw a spotted fantail in one of your earlier posts. Is that the same one? Actually none of my fish have names, but I know a lot of people name their fish.

We have named our fish too. Remembering their names may be another issue.

Haha, I have only named a few, so I can tell who they are. Some are named similar to their "color" pattern. Shamu was trying out for Sea World last weekend! He literally jumped completely out of the water ... twice! I heard the splash the first time, then saw him come straight up and out of the water the second time, in the middle (thanks goodness). Was quite spectacular. :)
Here are all the fantails that I own, Keith:
This is the one with red spots on each section of the fantail, plus the dorsal fin and on top of it's head! Found this one at the local pet shop last December.

This is Spot. He/she has been in my koi pond since last summer.

Then there is Speck, also found at the local pet shop last December.

And, last, but surely not least, the gorgeous red and white fantail I got from Pond Kid, along with 3 of the other Sarassas and pure white (with red eyes) Comets.

In this last picture, the white goldfish has 1 red, 1 blue eye, the Fantail has 2 red eyes, and the red and white Comet or goldfish next to the white one also has 2 red eyes. I loved that! Hoping they pass on that eye color gene to their babies. :)

Country; Don't know where you heard that Sarasa X Fantail fry would be sterile. Both are goldfish, and this is how many of the varieties were created. You just might end up with Watonai or Wakin goldfish!

Oh, well maybe I dreamed that, John! Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I have to look up the Watonai and Wakin goldfish .... :)
Tonight Speck was in the skimmer, and the filter from the bottom was floating up with the basket, so he/she had very little water to be in, but was still just fine when I put it back into the pond.
So I bought a bag of Canna mixed color bulbs at Menards, and decided to see how they will do in the pots in my new bog. Took out the dwarf cattails and irises and put them bare root in the pea gravel. Then put the Canna bulbs in those pots. Voila! That way I will know where the Cannas are come fall and I need to dig them out. Guess I would know from the plant, too. :) We shall see if they grow or drown. Was only $5.88 for the bag of 10 bulbs. They seemed to be all growing sprouts, too, except for one.
Then I planted some deep red Phlox (the tall kind, 30-36") and a tall purple spike flower called Liatris Spicata on the back side of the koi pond, so that they will be tall enough when they bloom to see from the deck, since that side is 2 landscape stones high off the ground (about 18") Have more of the purple flowers to plant around the oak tree on the back side of the goldfish pond, but have to dig out the sod first. That tree is too close to the pond to mow between it, so will landscape that area instead. :)
And, got a couple of screen/quilt batting filters put together for the top of the stream and top of the waterfall, so each pond will be getting fine filtered and see if that helps with the murkiness of the ponds. Wondering if the colder temps has killed any bacteria that was trying to grow ... Water temp tonight was 55.

Ce, I was wondering that too. I live in central Iowa and we have had freeze warnings the past 2 nights and got another one tonight. I've been covering some of my newly planted grasses. The water still feels pretty warm but I've cut back on the feedings.

Yep, we had freeze warnings here, too, Brandon's Dad! I brought in the petunia planters at 3:30 last night ... couldn't sleep and kept worrying about them .... :) The water is staying pretty warm, but I think the sun is warming up the waterfall, which in turn warms up the pond this time of year. I quit feeding before last weekend, figure the fish need to eat what is there for now, maybe that will help clear the pond as well, with less feeding. Nothing is helping so far, darn it. Patience, I know ....

CE, Really nice fish. The first watonais were crosses between Ryukins and Wakins. I don't know how they breed then now. I have two of them that I bought last year. One of them is orange spotted and very active and the other one is always by itself that I am watching. Speck and spot are both cool looking fish. I used to have fish named pirate because he had a black patch around his eye!

One of my Shubies that I got is named "Saddle", cause he looks like he has a black saddle on his/her back. :) That's how I name fish, how they look, how they act, something to identify them. Don't begin to have names for all, though, couldn't ever remember them if I did. :)
Here is my "saddle" Shubunkin. Sorry, really blurry pic, but you can see the color markings anyhow.

Going to saddle up my mares this weekend and go for a couple of ride for sure! My daughter is coming home in June, and begging me to get the Fox Trotter in shape so she can take her to Southern Illinois for a few days of riding, and that's hard riding for a horse that is as fat as mine and out of shape. :) Saddle fish gets to stay in the pond. LOL
Rinsed out the screen/quilt batting sets tonight, both were very full of stuff. Hoping by doing this every evening I will help eliminate the stuff in the water. We shall see!
Planted more plants in the bog, and got the parrots feather I ordered on Ebay. Wow, that guy sent a huge amount, when the order was for 20, I must have gotten 30 and they were all really nice. :) I tucked the parrots feather under rocks on the waterfall, over the edges of the bog on the koi pond, and in a pot in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall area. I'm hoping that they will grow and multiply and then I can add some to the new pond, too.

I bet it all looks fabulous. You certainly deserve the relaxation of a nice horse back ride and then you can come home and enjoy your beautiful ponds.

PL, actually the horseback ride is probably going to be quite exciting .... as far as staying in the saddle, as the girls have not been ridden since last fall. They usually give me a hard time first time out, but I'm up for it. Neither of them are vicious, and one is so goofy the way she bucks (I call it bunny hopping, just keeps bouncing .... ) and that usually am laughing so hard it's hard to stay in the saddle. LOL But, I need to get them both out and ridden. Will take my neighbor girl riding once I can trust the mares. One is very gentle and easy to ride, just need to make sure no kinks are left to cause any problems. :)
