Can’t wait for it to flourish now!
We have had a few ponds locally stripped of fish due to otter visits so I’m a bit worried about how to prevent that
otters and minks are probably the absolute worst fears when keeping a pond as they'll empty the pond in no time (as you indicated). The only preventative I've heard that works is an electric fence. And of course, you're going to need heron protection, most likely, and for that, a net over the whole pond. See @addy1 and others here for that.

Good Luck!

Could you cast your expert eye over my build?
I filled on Saturday and used filter gel bacteria in and chlorine remover.
As you can see from the pics I’ve planted a few plants in the bog.
I have 8 fish in a holding pool so how long before I switch them over?
Ammonia is 0. Nitrite is 0 and PH 8.2
Be gentle please
Chris
Very nice love your build! Great Bog

Like said above just a few fish, give them time, don't feed much at all. You might be ok adding the 8 with the bog already running, just keep a eye on the water tests.

I was traveling yesterday for 10 long hours.......................today exhausted.

We did get 4 inches of rain this am!

Seems like almost endless rain here in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Nothing has time to dry out.

Slugs literally everywhere, wreaking havoc on plants and are generally disgusting. I think they are the only ones that like all the moisture.
Gotta spread out more Sluggo.

did Any1 try peace lily(spathiphyllum) into a Bog?
I had one in my acquarium, roots directly into water and "leaves" at surface...is almost 1 year that is there and still alive.
I wanted to do a Bog for my friend and i'm seeking out plants from my garden/pond for that.

I love sushi so I am trying to find wasabi plant/seed to see how it goes
In Japan, they're growing them in running water of the river.

Hi pond lovers!
I've been wanting a pond for some time now and gather some equipment during the past year or so.
I have a question about the size of the pvc pipe. Can we use any size? I believe I read a thread not sure if it was here or in another place that 3"-4" was better. Long story short I bought some 4" pvc pipe last year with the intent to start building everything this year.

The bog filter will be around 8' x 4' x 24" deep. I'll be using a 2" hose, which will connect to a 2" pvc pipe that goes down to the two 4" pvc pipes, the other side are the two cleanouts (Picture attached shows everything better). Note that I need to buy longer pipes, and that's why I want to know if this set up will work fine before spending more money.

Is there a reason why I can't use it? Everything I read now says to use 2" pipe. I see the aquascape centipede is around 10"

Thanks in advance!

My bog (filter) is just about the same size as what you propose.
I have a single 2" line from the pump to the bog, on a 75' run from pump house to bog. The bog then overflows into a stream back that same 75' to the pond, to make a closed circuit.
The 2" line delivers plenty of water: I have to throttle the pump down, or it overflows the stream. 4" line will work, but would be an overkill in my situation.

Since you already have the 4", that's fine. A bit overkill, but fine.

My bog is 14 feet X 5 feet with 12 inches of gravel and I used two 10 foot long 2 inch pvc pipes as my manifold. It's been running non-stop for almost two years and all is great.

I faced my slits up instead of down figuring if there is ever any chance for muck buildup, the slits won't get blocked. Many others have faced them down.

I think cutting slits is better than just drilling holes which may get blocked by the gravel easier.

I cut the slits 1/3 through the PVC and spaced them 1-1/2 inches apart.

Interesting, might have to think about it.
Thanks!
