@ callingcalleen I think after 3-5 years old the shell on the eggs becomes so thick or hard the sperm can't penetrate and feterlize the eggs a male is good to go after a year or so but the amount of sperm would be small due to size so most People go with two males to one female but I don't need that many babies I say let the big girls be and try with smaller females and what ever males you have hopefully this helps.

Can the females get "egg bound" from never breeding for so long?

From my reading they say no they will just re absorb the eggs and be healthy so your good.

I'm down to about 50 only keeping Showa, sanke, utsuri at this point most are about inch and a half to two inches all outside in big grow out pond so pics are harder to come by but updated pics coming Sunday
