All these snakes are harmless. They will not attack unprovoked and will never chase you. The worst they can do is crap on you and possibly cut your skin if they bite(with the exception of the copperhead he could ruin your day) and that's if you mess with them. If you don't pull away when they bite you would have a bunch of tiny holes in your skin. It may bleed impressively for a few minutes but that's about it. Not any reason to kill them. They were here long before you were and will be after we are gone. That's if we don't kill them like we do anything we don't understand and fear. I once used to keep and breed many different species of snakes, venomous and constrictors to your more common types for 40+ years. Where I live and have lived for 57 years there is hardly a toad sighting anymore. I had a large garter snake eat a frog out of my pond two summers ago and it was awesome to see. Made me think we didn't destroy everything around here. I only wish I had some of the wildlife you guys have visiting your ponds. Its only another species doing what its supposed to do. Chances are it will be preyed upon by something else around your pond. Enjoy the fact that its there, It wouldn't be if you were not doing something right.

I'm blessed that we have so much wildlife. The only snakes I fear are watermoccasins, copperhead, and a healthy respect for rattlesnakes. Very little wildlife scares me, feral hogs are probably the scarriest. No large predatory species around here, I've been known to relocate black widows, however I find my aversion to Brown recluse now spread to any wolf spiders that look enough like them to cause me to flinch away.

My opinion of water snakes is based off my experience as a youth with a particularly giant 6 foot long water moccasin (cottonmouth) that used to take up residence at my uncle's lake. Nope, nope, nope. NOPE.

I guess I'm twisted . The more aggressive the snake was the more I enjoyed catching it . Feed it then let it go

They can get big 5 or 6 feet but thats nothing compared to those in the south with 8 10 and 12 foot long . I guess I'm lucky those aren't in the north im sure I would have tried to catch them.

Not at my house! My dogs are taught a very solid default "leave it" when it comes to snakes. We have too many copperheads hanging around & we need to keep the nosey noses safe. This was taken in front of our house - they live in the stone retaining wall.

My road issues keep traffic at a minimum. The big rat snake that used to be around chased a lawyer away, he was trying to convince step mom of something not so good for her finances, oddly, after trying to hide behind a disabled woman, he wasn’t keen on visiting her house. We do get venomous snakes, but not so many any more. But that’s good to me!
