Last year this week we got 5" of snow so I can't complain about our weather. It is in the mid 30's and I have a thin sheet of ice on the pond every morning but melts by the evening.

It is 49 this morning here. Got basement "pool" filled last night. Stupid me, used the skimmer to pump it into the basement via extra pipe I had. Worked really well! Went outside, unplugged the pump. Thought it was done filling. Nope, it was siphoning still, didn't think of that, thus the "stupid me" part. It rain over the top, but not too much, and good thing is that the pool is in utility room, concrete floor, all boxes in storage in there are up on shelves, and water went to sump hole. It was about 38 degrees, so hoping it will warm up to about 50 at least by tomorrow night.
Here are some pics of the koi I bought:

I don't know much about koi but looks like to me that you picked out some beauties there Patti. All have nice colors and love the flowing tails on those butterflies!

Thanks, ladies, glad you approve. I wanted butterflys and about 4 months ago saw my first Gin Rin and they are so sparkly! Now, the bad thing about buying and having fish shipped is that you need to buy as many as possible or affordable in my case to make the high shipping cost worthwhile. There is only one shipping cost but you can combine as many fish as you want. I will have a load of fun with them in the basement all winter to enjoy. Looking forward to receiving them on Friday! Will take lots of pics while they are inside the house, easier to photograph, or at least that's what I'm hoping. Using skimmer pump since no pumps left at local stores, darn it. But, time to bring it in anyhow. May leave the waterfall and fountain running while I'm gone to visit my daughter for Christmas, but the weather will have to convince me of no solid freezes while I'm gone, and I bet that's not going to happen. Probably will shut everything down this weekend, AND get as much of the big patch of algae out that I can. Leaving all the algae on the sides, just not this bunch that looks like a huge nest.
Oh, and FYI, I am learning as I go. Got quite a few pointers from Larkin on do's and don'ts on buying koi. I made some good choices and some not so good, but I still like the fish, just know more of what to look for now.

Nice fish Patti!

The weather here has been having daily highs above normal for the most part since I posted last so the pond ice surface melted a little bit, with the ice below a layer of water. Here is a picture to show you what I mean:

DSC04714.JPG

We were getting several daily highs in the 30s or even low 40s some days, it felt like October/November weather not December, but now it is back to closer to normal temps. Right now it is 25 degrees out so the snow we just got should stick around and give us a White Christmas, so here are some pics for those who don't have any snow on the ground:

Accidently had the camera on a different photo setting and it turned out kinda cool.

We only got an inch or so, but enough to coat everything in snow.

It will be really fun to see what it looks like after we get our first blizzard for the year. Here is a close up of where the pump is keeping a hole open in the ice:

Here is the waterfall:

Here are some of the evergreens covered in snow:

I just checked the forecast and it looks like the rest of the week is going to be warm again with the daily highs all in the 30s and even 38 for a high on Monday.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

I thought so and hope she is enjoying her white Christmas. The only thing after a day it turns grey and brown and just looks dirty .Your stones around the pond look like they got frosting on top of them .

Hard to think it is Christmas, down here, 80 degrees, sun out, hot. Cold in Maryland, but no snow.

I know what ya mean addy. We were in Cali. once around Christmas time and it was nice and warm w/ palm trees and swimming pools everywhere and we were out bike riding in shorts. Just not right! Not one bit!
