That's what I do with my pump when I drain it or do water changes. Just move it around. But, it will handle leaves and other stuff that get sucked in. We have blue roll up tubing, heavy duty stuff and hook it to our drain pipe in the basement. When I'm done, just roll the tubing back up and and put it and the pump back in the tote till the next time.
