Mid to high 80's here all week. Having to get on bike early to avoid the heat. Nice and cool in the high 50's in the mornings. Coyote yipping and howling now off in the distance. Prolly got a rabbit.

We had a horrible drought two years ago. Not a drop of rain that spring and next to none that summer. Trees were bare of any leaves by summer and they looked all dead. The caterpillars ate them all. This stopped the trees from dying as without leaves the trees went into hibernation and saved the roots from total collapse. When the rains did come later that summer the trees slowly grew new leaves and hardly any trees actually died, so caterpillers helped tree survive the long drought that year. There was a few branches that died here and there but most of the trees survived.

Your having a terrible summer @sissy, hopefully it will cool off and rain and then the rotting neighbor's garbage won't stink so bad. Its just terrible that they won't take their garbage away.
We had such a heat with dry winds yesterday that all the prairie grass suddenly turned yellow. The heat reached close to 96 degrees yesterday, now today it feels cold and barely 60 degrees. The plants need a break from that intense heat.
