More snow! 2 weeks in a row. 1st was last storm. The pvc frame collapsed into the water but popped back up. View attachment 146881View attachment 146882
I see these pics (among others) and wonder 'how can that thing collapse with just a net and some snow (not ice), AND then pop back up??? Glad it does for you, though. My first attempt at a winter 'tent' had pvc, but I used it as an A frame not a hoop, and even with some metal conduit support braces, the weight of 11" of snow on the plastic tent collapsed it. What a mess; had to work to shore it up while underneath, working on 2x10 boards across the water, all in sub freezing weather.

Nice, interesting pic, btw! Should have entered this one in the 'White' photo contest!

Thanks! With the 1st storm, we got 12" Of wet snow. I was shocked at how much the wide weave netting accumulated. The one end hoop came loose at the center, still need to fix that. Guess it rotated to the side to collapse. I could see the pic on the UW cam.

You can see the collapsed framework. We have a lot of trees that couldn't handle the weight of snow. Plenty of firewood for next year!

I wonder if roping your structure ala tent style would keep it from collapsing (as in, it can't spin sideways). Could try next year before the ground freezes. I like these pics even better and definitely would have done well in the White contest! I know YOU see tragedy but still a beautiful scene!

Our snow from the storm a couple weeks ago is almost completely gone. And while it's been relatively cold, the daytime highs have kept the pond almost ice free, except for a few days.

Fish are pretty boring this time of year! Just hanging around waiting for Spring (sort of like me! lol)

might be boring but still love to see fish pics! And though your pond is basically plantless right now, I think your pics bring out the nice texture/shape/size of all your rockwork. Like it's 'there' in summer but now, you get a different perspective! Pretty cool, actually! More peeps should post 'no snow but no plant pics!

We were suppose to get up to 3 feet of snow and we barely have 4 inches. i use to bitch about the old weather men back in the day at least they were relatively close.

@GBBUDD Thanks. This is the way it went in back in 2012. We had an installer, not DIY, so while we coached them in the design they did the actual build. There are definitely things I wish they had done differently on the main stream/waterfall, but overall I'm happy with how it came out.

The pond shape was definitely determined by the space we had to work with - long & narrow was pretty much the only option! But, I really do think the fish appreciate the length for swimming. Volume wise it's not a huge pond, but it's got a lot of surface area.

I haven't posted any pictures of my pond because the snow we had 2 weeks ago totally buried it. We got about 2 feet of snow, but since one side of the pond is raised for the water fall, it caused the snow to drift and I think there was 3 feet over the pond. Not sure. Too deep for me to even get close to measure. :)
