Now I just need to think about how I could make the fire pit double as a decorative fountain!
Were you mostly concerned with having water for the garden during drought?
that's not a big deal at all. You just drop your aquablocks down say a foot deeper . Place rubber over the top of the area except where the water drops into the cistern .Any thoughts on how to install a fire pit over this area? Would need a really bullet proof way to keep the bottom of the fire pit from melting a hole in the top of the aquablox
Heat from a fire pit is not that much to transmit thermally downward. Like i said before recess the aquablocks have your liner big enough to fold over the top of the cistern so you can seal the top where you want to have the patio and or the fire pit. if it sits on 8 inches to a foot of sand and the cistern has water in it that is cool and sealed and wet that about as bullet proof as it getsAny thoughts on how to install a fire pit over this area? Nope. Drinking water in case of emergency.
Isn't that what your other underground cavern is for? Edible mushrooms? We have one of these - Big Berkey water filter. You can filter just about any quality of water through this and make it potable. We use it for everyday water at home, but it would definitely come in handy for drinking pond water.
(My fish look at me funny when I tell people we'll drink the water if we have to. I think they're wondering "but what will you... eat?")

@Lisak1: If you have 1-2' of dirt and landscaping over top of your aquablocks and also an open space in the blocks where the water from the pond falls into the cistern, how are you keeping the dirt retained so that it doesn't fall or seep into the cistern area? Are your blocks fully wrapped in liner?
How do you keep the dirt out of the part that is exposed? What is holding it back? The portion that is underground, yes. The portion that is exposed is covered with rocks.
