Still here! did a strike in one of the loop ponds. No fish that I am aware of but a lot of frogs. Which are probably hiding due to the cold. The alert, the sighting, the slow attack , the miss, it came up with nothing.

I love watching them, this one stood in the same place for over a hour. Unreal patience.

Now he found a entry into the walk out area. When I pulled the net tight to cover the other end it lifted it from the shallow end. So it walked right under the net..................did a strike got nothing and finally took off to head home......................Between the 3 visits about
6 hours of heron time here. And it will be back tomorrow.

The net was 10 inches off the ground, it stuck its head under and lifted it right up. I thought it walked under nope crawled under.

I went down tightened it up, tied it down in the center, tightened the net it landed on, now wait and see what it does tomorrow.
It stood in the bog for a long time watching the fish but could not find a way in. The net is down to the top of the bog.

I could not harm it, they are beautiful birds. It also decided the barking yorkies were nothing to worry about.

I hear a airplane alert!

Oh dear ! I cringed watching it strike the poor fish.....I know it's nature.....but it's a part of nature that makes me cringe :( Wow, it's persistent that's for sure.....do you have any extra netting you could add to your net? Maybe even one of those nets from big box stores would help temporarily. ....there's less wildlife to get trapped in their smaller weave over winter.

Well, the pictures are engrossing and dramatic.....can hardly wait to see what happens tomorrow...Addy verses Mr. Heron.......my bet's on our Addy :)

lol except the first strike he has come up empty. You don't see it raise its head to toss the food down.

I have modified the net, will keep working on it. That is one reason I just watch and don't chase the heron away. It lets me know any weak spots we might have. Which it found.

The small loop ponds only have fish in them if eggs of fry made it that far. I have not seen any recently. I do not cover them.

I think you're probably going to have to tie it to the ground in some way if the bird is figuring out there's a way under. Got any tent pegs you can just hook and pound into the ground? Betcha sports stores would have them...

I WAS gonna say put lil bear on duty but apparently, this heron knows he's all bark and no bite, hey??

The first time they went crazy it flew away, now it totally ignores them. Even if out on the deck barking.

It sure alerted when a noisy small plane flew over.
