want to see something really funny, get some Laguana citrus Koi treats and throw a few in the pond. They are kind of big and the big koi will grab them and it looks like a cigarette stuck out of it's mouth, the smaller guys will go and kiss the big one trying to get to it. I tried to video them when I fed them and it was so funny but I couldn't catch a decent video, Now I have run out and want to go get some more.

Hey, thanks guys for the positive comments!

I dug the pond about 10 years ago. It's sort of pear shaped, 28 feet long and 18 feet wide (at the widest points) and about 3 feet deep at the centre. It has a pretty standard synthetic rubber liner, pump/filter/uv arrangement.
I'm no fish-keeper, but I guess the big guys are some kind of koi, or other, not really sure. I inherited them about 7 years ago. Here's a couple more pics.... in one, you can see the newly added shibunkin.

Very nice fish! koi have those little whisker things sticking out by their mouths. I only have goldies and shubbies, no koi.

Like the colors you have there.

How deep is that pond? It looks really shallow, but it might just be the clarity of your water. It almost looks like your koi stick out of the water while their bellies are on the bottom lol.

He stated it's 3' deep but I agree, the water is so clear it appears it's a very shallow pond! Nice pics!

What's the little house on the pond for.....................ducks? Very, very nice clear water. Do you have any trouble keeping the bottom clean w/ the rocks on the bottom and how do you deal w/ cleaning around the them

Well, the small sinking pellets have solved the shubbies feeding issues. With a pinch dropped in a few locations here and there, they get to some while the big guys are attending to summat else. Success! Thanks again.

j.w - yes it's a duckhouse. last year a pair of Mallards and their chicks made an appearance and stayed a little while. And so this year when they returned I hastily built this humble dwelling for them. Anyhow, (this is not a happy ending) we then went on vacation for a couple of weeks. When I got home I expected to see some stage of duck-life on the pond but both pond and duckhouse were clear of any feathered friends. i thought, well theyve probably been and gone, because there were duck dropping on the steps of the duckhouse. Then when I was netting leaf debris from the bottom of the pond a week later, I found seven eggs on the bottom :fish:

But hey, they'll be back. Maybe not today ........ but soon.

Steve

Hmmmmmmmm? I think that if you have a large pond w/ a small amount of goldfish they would do fine but if small pond w/ lots of goldfish prolly not enough to take care of their needs. For several years I did not feed my goldfish but then there were just a few of them and in a large pond compared to how many of them. They did not multiply much either and so no over population. Now I have a bigger pond and still only maybe 24 plus goldfish and compared to the pond size they would still do just fine but I prefer to feed them just cuz I like them coming to me and would like them to reproduce a bit more and they do get much larger faster w/ feeding :fish:

I have a large pond jw, used to be few fish, now tons of fry, larger fish still in hiding, tadpoles, water bugs everywhere. None care to eat any food tossed in so I don't feed at all. Some of the fry are now 1/2 inch or so, others so tiny can hardly see them. At this point just a natural pond. All seem to be doing just fine.

If you watch for a while you can see the fish scooting around, they love the lilies i.e. hiding not messing with.

Darn pondside, that is a bummer, wonder how they ended up there.

LOL, they just do that. We lived on a lake when I was young. My mom would get up and walk the yard in the mornings and I was Mama's boy, If she dug I dug, if she planted I planted, if she pulled weeds I pulled weeds, if she waded in the water to get new duck eggs, I watched and let her get muddy! I was in charge of keeping the bucket ready so she could put the eggs in from her petty coat. LOL We wouldn't mess with the actual nest, those were off limits! But the ones on the edge in the water if you got them early in the morning and checked for them everyday they would be fine for eating. I guess kind of like gathering chicken eggs.
My Mom got me started in gardening and ponding. Our first pond was more just a Big water fall that water was sucked from the lake pumped up the hill and came out through a VERY large water fall that lead back to the lake. No fish, just water and plants and a large Lily in one of the holes before it went back into the lake. I remember one morning we found about 8-10 eggs or so in the bottom of the lily bowl, Mama was going to get them but the sides were to slick, so she held my feet while I grabbed them, She lost her grip, I went head first into the lily bowl but I got Dem der eggs! But that was the last time Mama held my feet near any water!
