I have just purchased the venturi in the picture, see instructions below, can anybody help, where do i fit it, on the return? what does it mean "Suitable only for a pressure pump input" when it the goes on to say "and ideal for connecting to the outlet/return on gravity fed filter systems " does it go above the water?in the water?, wher on the outlet? in line? at the end?

Suitable only for a pressure pump input, and ideal for connecting to the outlet/return on gravity fed filter systems the venturi unit is a well establish and highly efficient device for improving oxygen saturation levels. The sound constructed Cloverleaf Venturi is engineered to offer the hobbyist the facility of swopping between the two different cones as supplied, and thus provide greater control over distribution.

(Where desired the Venturi can of course be run from a separate dedicated submersible pressure pump)[/I][/I][/I][/I]

how big is it? How big are the inputs/ouputs (please provide answer in UK and US measurements)? It's kinda hard to tell from the photo. Do you have a direct link to a site that sells it?

Does it come with some kind of unions to connect it other piping? The far end looks like a direct connect, but not sure about the tapered side on the left.

So it's basically saying that it goes on after your filter--and it appears that you can use pipe cement to attach it. [I've personally never heard of a jubilee clip, tho I assume it's a UK term for a clamp of some sort).

What are you hoping to accomplish with this? It seems like you've purchased it, but don't quite know what to do with it. Venturi's in inject water into the pond to aerate it. Water in it is sucked in like a vacuum which creates bubbles.

IMHO, it has always been easier to use an air pump with a good airstone at the bottom of the pond to greater effect. Of course, a venturi does not consume power.

Have one on my small pond. IMHO save your money and buy a air pump.

thanks for your help, howeever I am still at a loss as to where it fits, all i can get is that the spiggoted end goes on the waste pipe. Does it go aftyer the filter and before the end that currrently flows into the pond

i would put it after the filter if you have a hose going from the filter to the pond. if you have a waterfall then of course it would go before the filter. it works by water flowing thew it and sucking air in the little part that sticks up. that's why there is a air line shown in the picture on eBay. that part needs to be above water or in line to the output to your pond.

well i have some experience with aquariums so i know the basics of water and fish but i have learned most from reading. i started reading on here and other sites about 8 months ago. with i first got a house that i could have a pond sense it was winter time then i knew i wanted to learn as much as possible before i stated mine in the spring. lots of research and just spitting out what i have learned.

It would go just after your pump, usually attaches to the pumps output. If its a submersible pump being used you attach the correct sized flexible tubing to the air intake and extend it above the water surface.

so it inerupts the pipe on its way from the pump to the filter, so how does the air enter the water, are we saying that the aeriated water just dumps into the filter.

so if i got this right see drawing, how does the air get into the water, thus will only aeriate the water pre-filter, also how do i fix the pipe to the tapered end?

The velocity of the water "sucks" in the air thru the air inlet tube. I guess to answer your question properly, What are you using the venturi for? Just O2 saturation? Knowing what type of plumbing and filtration you are using helps. For example: I am using a bottom drain that will gravity feed my filter. The filter will als gravity feed my pump. My pump will shoot the water up to my waterfall and back into the pond.

A jubilee clip I just looked up and is - in american-ish - a hose clamp. They also suggest you can use a solvent weld. Do you know what the venturi is made of? Either way, it seems some type of flexible tubing or pipe would work. If you use a rigid pipe like PVC you could connect with a rubber coupling with the "jubilee clip" at either end. A common brand name for these are Fernco couplings. If you use flexible pipe, then just the jubilee clip or -as we that will win the cup game tomorrow say - hose clamp.
