I pay nothing for water or sewage. I get my water from the pristine North Umpqua river.

same here. Most of our road was converted to city water a few years back but we had the option to keep the well and did.

We are far enough from town that won't happen in my life time. Same reason we have only the option for comcast, nobody else has run cables out here.

We pay about $55 a month for water and sewage. But, if we are going to do a water change where we are using a lot of water, or for people with pools, if you call them ahead of time and tell them, they will regulate the sewage part since you aren't using the water for flushing your toilet.

They do the same here if you are on public water. Which is keeps some of the cost down.

I've posted this before. The utility companies just estimates our bills in this area. One summer, my wife and kids were out of town on an extended visit, traveling with their cousins and aunt. Since I was the only person home, the utilities should have dropped at least 1/2, since I cooked less, turned on electronics less and used less water. But the bill was pretty much the same. And when extended family comes to visit, the bills don't go up either.

That water bill is just way to extreme Dave!! How the heck do you fill the pond up? I am so sorry to hear that you have to pay such extreme amounts. Simply crazy to have such a high water bill!
The most I think we pay for water is in the summer, if I water the big yard lots, it may cost me about 100 dollars in hot summer months, and I thought mine was high! Never going to complain again!!

Rain is free.

I've connected four rain barrels in parallel, each holds 55 gallons. At the top of the last barrel in the series, I drilled a hole and inserted sump pump hose to that when the entire system has been filled, the overflow from the last barrel can be directed away.

220 gallons of rainwater is then available for pond top-ups. There's a small pump in one of the barrels which we connect to the garden hose to water the plants.
